CS and 1# weight

Does Etsy allow First Class shipping for something weighing 1.0#? I have a few bags that weigh in at 15.9 ounces only when I use a free Priority box (which weighs less than boxes I have to purchase for First Class shipping), and I had rounded to 1.0# to make sure it went Priority.

This has never, ever been a problem before they start the auto fill-in. Last week I sold one of these bags, and CS had a red note on the label page saying that I had apparently rounded up and Etsy allows First Class on under 1#, so they charged the customer First Class shipping.

I thought First Class had to be less than 1#, up to 15.999 oz? If this is true, why would CS make such an assumption? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Pam, when you enter 16 oz when printing out a 1st class label this message pop up
"You rounded up to 16 oz, right? Packages that weigh more than 16 oz don't qualify for First Class shipping. Learn More."

So if your package was 16.5 oz. it would not quality for FC but as long as it was under 16 oz. then it qualifies for FC (if you had a FC profile on the item).

For calculated shipping to give the buyer a choice of 1st class (and I assume Priority), you had to have BOTH mail classes on the profile for that item.

To solve this problem don't have both mail classes on these items.

As long as you have both profiles, CS will show the buyer both FC or PM options.

I have a few items that weigh 14 up to 15.99 oz but I don't want them to be mailed FC (to big for a mailer, so I have a Priority only profile on them.

When someone buys one of these items the calculator only shows the buyer PM rates.

Thanks, Pat! Yeah, I didn't remove the FC option, as I thought putting it at 16 oz would make it go to Priority, never realizing CS would assume I had rounded up and it should go First Class. I've changed those weights to 1.1# and will remove the FC option.

Re: CS and 1# weight

You're welcome.

You do know if you change the weight to 1 lb. 1 oz the buyer will be charged the 2 lb rate.

If the item/box is no more than 16 oz. leave it at 16 oz.
The buyer will only be charged the 1 lb rate.

A lot of difference in postage. I'm in NC, 1 lb box going to CA is $7.16. a 2 lb box is $10.77.

You can put the weight less than 16 oz or 16 oz as long as you only have a Priority profile on that item, first class will not be an option. The buyer will only see the Priority rate.

You could put 3 oz and if the item had a Priority only profile the buyer would not get to pick 1st class.

Re: CS and 1# weight

There are so many variables in these bags, which all look to a customer like they should ship for the same price - a drawback as many of them teeter on the edge of 1# vs 2# rate. If they qualify for First Class, the boxes I have to use weigh more than the free Priority boxes, which then put them over the 1# rate. I need to rethink things a bit!

Re: CS and 1# weight

Pam, you can select just to offer Priority on your shipping profile. If it's that close it is a good idea maybe to just use the free priority boxes and ship everything priority.

If you are offering people a shipping price based on their zip code, all the shipping prices will be different anyway. No two people are going to see the same shipping price unless they are in the same zone.

Re: CS and 1# weight

Yes, Kathy, that's what I'd been doing all along - always shipping Priority. As Pat suggested, I removed FC as an option on these bags. I was also in error not realizing FC included 16.0 oz.

You two are a tremendous help - thank you!
