Networking Fan Page & Likes Is it Worth It?

I see that it is a big trend to trade "likes" on facebook , follow blogs & trade "favorites" on etsy. But my question is - is it worth it? If you are not really a fan of someone's work, is it rude not to 'like' them back?
I guess my thought is I would rather have someone like our shop & facebook page if they actually LIKE our work & would potentially make a purchase or refer friends that would. If I am missing something in all this 'like' swapping, please let me know.

I guess I agree with you, but at the same time, that person has friends and "circles" who see your item every time they like it, so that's another way your things are being exposed...you never know who will see it and click on your shop and maybe find something else there that will lead to a purchase...

Re: Networking Fan Page & Likes Is it Worth It?

I guess my concern is that often I find if I 'like' them back (& they aren't truly a fan of our work , doing it only to gain their own likes) Eventually many of these shops delete my shop from their list. This has happened on more then 1 occasion. So I feel like I would rather have shops that have a mutual appreciation for each others work & really do active promoting of each others work then are just 'like' happy. Is this the wrong approach? If so I guess i would like to know if there really is a benefit to all this 'like' exchanging.

Yeh that is true also but you could see it positively too as if to say you posted your website on your friends face book page .. then their friends could see it and then they may like your page :)

Re: Networking Fan Page & Likes Is it Worth It?

I don't put any effort into facebook (although maybe I should, but I don't currently). I mainly "favorite" items that I see and like (click on the heart in the upper left hand corner of an item's photo.) I love to look at the home page listings and at other people's favorites and then I "heart" a few each day. It all shows up in the activity feed and everyone can see what items and shops I like as well as the shops that like me back. I like seeing all the cool things everyone has. I never like something if I don't REALLY like it. I don't have a ton of sales (at the moment) either. But I went from no sales at all, to 23 sales, simply by clicking on the "hearts" of my favorite things in other peoples stores. So, I guess it's true..."What comes around, goes around!"

Share the love for OTHER peoples things and they might just share it back!!!
Good luck and enjoy the learning curve!! (It never actually ends ya know. : )

Re: Networking Fan Page & Likes Is it Worth It?

Great tip HopeInSite

I create Jewellery on the basis whatever I come up with at that moment so every one of my pieces are unique no matter if i do create another they are all very different the thing I wonder is . Does everyone like things that are unusual creative and as I am not going for that look I want to create simple designs . although I'm not sure that is what the market are looking for

Ashley188 - All of our piece are unique too, we rarely make the same thing more then once or twice. As far as the market goes, it seems that you just need to find your niche and go with it. I have a friend on here that makes bags (GoodMarvin is the shop) and she found her niche in yoga mat bags. She offers other things as well but since she has something unique to offer that many other etsy bag makers don't offer, her shop has been getting really busy. So I think if you just market what makes your shop unique that will help you.

We are still figuring out the rest of the marketing. it may just be that our shop is to a point that we need to just put more of our efforts in to marketing offline with more festivals.

Thank you for your comments
