Just getting started here.

I do have so many questions...but I have to start somewhere so here goes. I am a custom picture framer with a brick and mortar in a mall. I have a way of framing wedding invites (bar mitzvah, business cards, etc) that I came up with many years ago that really make the piece "pop" along with being a stunning art piece and treasure for future generations. When someone does one they do it again and again because of the small price and big postitive response from the giftee.

I have tried to find a similar circumstance here where the customer would be responsible for sending something to the seller first before the sale could be complete and have failed. It should be a very easy process...you agree to have the invitation framed...you pay up-front. You drop it in the mail to me...I frame it within lets say 3-4 days and send it back off to you. But that part about counting on the customer to send it out post-haste is where I fear glitches.

Does anyone here have the same kind of thing? What has your experience been. Is there anything special I should tell the customer to cover my butt...along with theirs? Any special way I should have them send it besides the good ole USPS? Any insight here would be fabulous. I did spend 2 days in an ebay seminar learning lots about this way of conducting business but I know Etsy is not the same. Only similar. Thank you everyone here for your supporet and any comments.

If I were doing business this way I would have them send it to me and then I would make a listing for them according to the details you agreed on and after they paid I would ship within say 3 business days after payment was recieved. This way if they send it then you know they want it and then they pay and you make and ship.

Good Luck!!

I would have them send it to you with a tracking number - it costs very little, but that way there is a record of it and everyone is covered-

I have often had people send me garments they had purchased from me to embroider the next child's name, as well as those who want me to make a christening gown from a wedding gown.

I never send ship anything without a tracking number. Even the burp cloths that I sell, I send via USPS online which automatically has a tracking number.

Welcome and good luck!

My best advice --- patience and lots of hard work!
