Blogging and Making Best Use of your Time

My problem with respect to blogging, making art and selling will always be making best use of my time. My blog at http://epiphaniesafield.blogspot.com/ and my Etsy shop have always gotten low views and probably always will since it's visual art which is best sold, I think, face to face. Since my artwork itself takes hours and hours of time, much of it in remote outdoor locations, and since I work weekdays in a call center, I've been unwilling to invest much time in learning new untried ways of promoting my paintings and cards on line, preferring to learn and develop in a way that makes sense and is not overwhelming. However I want to keep gradually bringing traffic on line and wonder if a few people might look at the blog and suggest obvious next steps to make for increased visibility. Would the next thing be backlinks? Unlike a lot of Etsy sellers' blogs I think, my own centers on the experience and background knowledge giving rise to the art, not so much the technique or materials used in making the art. If I were linking with others I don't know if I'd want them necessarily to be other artists (this is not an absolute statement) but rather educated folks interested in travels in the natural world.

Re: Blogging and Making Best Use of your Time

What matters is that you talk about your most passionate about, I find that was the key to making my blog grow over time. Because i am not just promoting my shop ( I rarely do) Instead I focus on things that have been happening in my life that I want to share with them. So I take it on a personal level not about promoting my items so much. Unless there is something new coming up in my shop I am willing to share or have a few pointers to enhance their experience in my products.

But otherwise its random things that I like to chat with. I also recommend blog hops. you will find people coming to check your blog out and some will follow you. I dont blog that much I keep it to a min of 2 posts a week and that works for me. I do so much and am so busy that 2 posts are the most I can do for now with me shop featuring and writing one post about myself its a lot of work on top of doing everything else... but it works for me... I find more people read my blog because I find random things to discuss rather than just shop stuff... it works better for me. In the beginning I used to talk about my shop and promote it but that got boring quickly... Even i got bored just talking about work all the time. When I started doing it random posts in what was interesting to me it helped so much in people reading my stuff. People knew I would have 2 posts each week to read on facebook and I would have Network blogs to have this posted and tweeted to get them to come reading :)
