Packing Supplies

I thought it might be helpful to start a thread about shipping/packing supplies. I usually buy mine from Ebay.

Where do you buy your supplies? Where are the best deals?

Re: Packing Supplies

I get all my boxes for free from the post office. They even deliver them so that is really nice as well.
I used to buy my bubble wrap on ebay but now have switched to walmart. they have a 150 ft roll for 17$ so not a bad price.
for all my tissue paper, bags for shows, and ornament boxes I order through Nashville wraps. they ship out super quickly.
:)

Re: Packing Supplies

Check your nearest post office substation for styrofoam peanuts. The one on Main near Harlem in Snyder bags up used peanuts and sells them for $1/bag. They don't always have them, but it's nice when they do! Bonus points for reusing them!

Re: Packing Supplies

I get my bubble wrap from Walmart also and jewelry boxes & tissue paper from Nashville wraps which I don't find to be the cheapest but I like the quality of the jewelry boxes which include acid free cotton.
I also got a good price on bubble envelopes but can't find the receipt. I will let you know when/if I find it.

Re: Packing Supplies

Nicole, does the PO have anything other than priority boxes?

I get my bubble envelopes from upaknship.com. Royalmailers.com is another good place for bubble mailers. Tissue paper from Target since I don't use much. I buy washi tape on clearance from Michaels to tape jewelry boxes closed.

The cheapest jewelry boxes I've found are from storesupply.com. They are very good quality and deep enough that I can put my post earrings on a card. The shipping is really expensive and you have to buy 100 at a time, but it's the cheapest per box that I've found - 21 cents apiece (includes shipping).

Re: Packing Supplies

unfortunately Jocelyn, they only have priority or overnight boxes and envelopes for free. but you can get brown shipping paper rolls at the $1 store and wrap the boxes for first class international or first class mail. :)

Re: Packing Supplies

I'm like you Nicole - I use free Priority Mail boxes from USPS and I love that they deliver them to us. I keep two different sizes. I need lots of packing materials so I ask friends for bubble wrap and peanuts, and I have bought some peanuts at some local moving shops (Uhaul or Uncle Bobs storage) as Office Max and Office Depot are very expensive. I have gotten recycled moving supplies (boxes, bubble wrap, peanuts) from Freecycle (a yahoo group for people giving away stuff they don't want).

I also have used Uline.com based on reading in the forums as they sell boxes, envelopes, bags, etc.

Re: Packing Supplies

Right now I'm using boxes and bubble mailers from uline, and tissue paper I usually buy in bulk after Christmas for about $.50 a package.

I'm going to undergo a shift in my shop in the early part of the new year, and go more high end. I am currently sourcing custom wooden boxes from a factory in Brooklyn, and will probably use pillow boxes from either Nashville Wraps or Bayley's Boxes. I like the color from Bayley's, but the product from Nashville. We'll see.

Re: Packing Supplies

I ship all 'kraft' style, and typically buy boxes and envelopes through ebay (I don't have too much storage space, so I try to buy in groups of 50). It works for now, though if sales keep up the way they are, I might go for higher quantity to save a few cents. =) The ribbon I buy at Michaels and wait for coupons and sales.

I have thought about stocking different sizes of envelopes and boxes (for people who order larger quantities of charms). Do the rest of you do this? Where do you put everything!? =)

Also - I do have a box that I keep in the basement of random packing supplies (foam sheets, peanuts, 'air bubbles', tissue paper, etc) that I keep adding to when packages arrive. It has come in handy more than once! Yay for recycling!

Re: Packing Supplies

I am always asking friends and family members for the packing that comes in new things they bought. Bubble wrap, foam sheets, tissue paper, etc, etc. With Christmas coming I'll be able to stock up some more!

Re: Packing Supplies

Mary, I stock multiple sizes of boxes (2) and envelopes (4).

I bought a wide 3-drawer plastic cart from Walmart for $17ish. Top drawer is tissue, bubble wrap and miscellaneous packing supplies, middle drawer is jewelry boxes, and bottom drawer is bubble envelopes. I can get almost 100 of the 4x6 bubble envelopes in there.

You can see it on my About page or here's the direct link: https://img1.etsystatic.com/021/0/7071946/isa_760xN.8221765281_tpsl.jpg
