A Bit Of a Problem With The Region Filter

It doesn't appear to have Everywhere as default -

Re: A Bit Of a Problem With The Region Filter

Looks like sockysocks is linking to another team's discussions and I'm guessing it's set to Private so we'd have to members of that team to view it.

In fact when you go to Etsy's home page and search, it does search everywhere. The regional box appears on the left after you've done your search. Mine had "Grantham, UK" in there but when I search again, I was still getting worldwide results. I can see why people think that it's only searched for items in Grantham but honest - I was getting worldwide results.

Those filter boxes only come into play if you type anything in it to change it and it's easy to change back to everywhere afterwards. I find it quite useful if I want to find things just in the UK to cut down shipping times.

It's just the fact that the box has a regional suggestion ready-filled in which seems to be confusing people (and I can see why) but quite a few websites use this as a means of user-controlled filtering.

By default, Etsy searches the world for what you want and then you can refine it regionally - but only if you want to.

I don't think it's a problem personally.

Re: A Bit Of a Problem With The Region Filter

Sorry it was a private discussion - didn't realise.

This is was what I'd replied with -

MouthyMitts, that last link is about region filters. My region filter is set to UK. You can see what your own is set to by looking at your account, settings,
preferences and go to the bottom of the page.

Presumably this is the default as I can't recall setting it myself. I thought the main reason for this filter was to pick up sellers who ship to whatever country you have set as your region.

When I search for socks (my line of business!) I pick up sellers from all over the world but ONLY if they ship to the UK (my region filter). This cuts out a lot of US sock sellers who only sell within the US.

Presumably if a US buyer has her region set to US when she searches for socks she will find my shop because I ship to the US. So no problem.

Or am I missing something?

I got this information from this thread -

Best to read the comments from 0ara0 on the thread summary rather than all the ranting!

Re: A Bit Of a Problem With The Region Filter

Yes the problem is not the link when searching, down the left hand side, but in preferences as socky said.

But socky - we cant read that thread :(

There has been LOTS & LOTS about this in the forums - I think is affects us greatly because most buyers have it set to US (thats what most sellers seem to say over there when they check it) & they dont realise...

Re: A Bit Of a Problem With The Region Filter

AlteredEras, sorry I know you can't read that thread. Basically it contains a lot of question asking - the comments I've added to it are written above so you are not missing much by not seeing the discussuion.

I'm basically saying I don't think there is a problem. As I've said my preferences are set to the UK but I still pick other countries in my search as long as they ship to the UK. Again as I've said, surely if a US buyer has theirs set to US any search they do will pick up shops from everywhere unless they don't ship to the US. So no problem.

I think you are disagreeing with this. Please can you explain why?

Re: A Bit Of a Problem With The Region Filter

Hi Socky - from what I've read in the forums - a lot of peeps when checking (by - like you said - going into settings, preferences etc) have found their settings DEFAULTED to USA.

I thought (as they did I believe) - that only items FROM USA come up - NOT items that ship to USA. But I NOW believe that is not the case.

I think if your settings were in fact set to USA you WILL in fact get items from outside US if they ship to you :)
