To optimize your pictures for the search engine use your title and alt text.

Click on the image in your post and click on properties. You will see a box pop up to add the title and alt text.

Alt text is the most important for the search engine.

Adding Etsy mini to your Blogger.

Under a page or post in the text area on the top left there is a Compose/HTML. Click the HTML button then copy the Etsy mini code. Then save!

What is Alt Text for images? What should I write there? Is it a link to something?

Its kind of like the 'code' the search engine sees so you come up in an image search when someone Googles keyword phrases.

For ex: Im a wedding photographer. Im blogging a wedding. The wedding was at a barn venue.

My blog image tiles would be 'insert name' barn wedding.

My atl text would be Syracuse wedding photographer.

Alt text should be what you'd want to be found for. My website also has relevant info and matching matching keyword phrases with Syracuse wedding photographer making my blog post more relevant than another in Googles eyes.

I want the search engine to hit on my images when someone searches syracuse wedding photographer. A title relevant to my alt text gives me a better chance of showing higher. This also gives opportunity for someone searching for said 'barn venue' and chance to hit my images which leads them to my blog post.

I could also make my titles a bit more specific like bridal party at barn venue or couples kissing, cake cutting, etc. This gives me more options to be found. If I have 10 images in my post I can give the titles variety but, my alt text will stay specific. I want my images to come up the most for a Syracuse search as thats my area.

I want couples doing a venue search to find my post and fall in love. They want to hire me, I know the venue/they like my work/they happen to be looking for a wedding photographer too... Or they refer me to a friend looking, they share my post excited on facebook showing off the venue they went to look at... a friend on their page is getting married... they now click on my website. Its a domino.

Mine's going slow and steady. I've got a few posts per week scheduled and I'm working on getting pictures for all of them. I find that when I have something to write about, I write long posts, so I'm working on writing shorter posts that I can schedule more frequently.

I'm going to work on the alt text for images this afternoon.

Does anyone know how to collect email addresses for a mailing list from the blog?

Sara you can use a widget type feature or a custom contact form for people to submit their email address for a newsletter, coupons, etc.

Hi! I have a question, not sure if there is an answer.

I've been reading about blogs and SEO and currently using LInkwithin to do some internal linking. But apparently that is not a good way to do it as it steals your 'link juice'.

Do you know of an alternative or should I even use a widget?

I use Linkwithin to link to my previous related posts. It is suppose to help with SEO until I found out that it is taking the traffic a roundabout way and stealing my link juice. :)

I would just link yourself and use long-tailed keyword text when you make the link.

Internal linking is good for SEO, the anchor text/long-tailed keywords are what works the best.

I get a lot of error messages whenever I'm trying to use blogger, mostly script errors. Is this a problem with blogger or with my computer/internet connection?

And yes, Kelly, TheBlogShop is a great shop and the owner knows a LOT about blogging. Just a few weeks ago I read a thread somewhere (can't remember exactly :/ ) and she had some really spot on advice!

Nessa , I am no technical person at all, but I was having script errors with Blogger using Internet Explorer , but in Chrome it is fine and actually better set out , I assume it is more compatible with Chrome.

Also I have a bit of a strange question , does using Blogger which is a Google product mean that your blog will rank higher in a Google search than for instance a Wordpress blog , I know there are obviously other factors like seo , content etc. but if there were two identical blogs would the Blogger blog rank higher in a Google search.

Anne, Blogger and Wordpress will rank equally. Its all about the content. Google is driven by content not the platform used. :)

I use Firefox because I hate IE with a passion. I might consider switching over to Chrome for now and see how it goes. Thanks, Anne!

Hi, just wondered if anyone knows if there's a way to aligh images next to each other in a blog post (it only seems to want to let me out oneunder the other), it's not a huge thing if it's not possible, but just wondered if there's another way of doing it


Also...i know there's a feature that allows posts to be shared on your google+ page, but is there any way to post it on my business google+ page inseatd of my personal one? both my business and personal pages share the same email address, and blogger only seems to be giving me the option of sharing all posts to my peronal page

You'll have to upload them in a two photo collage. Blogger gets whonky with images. You can use Photoscape, its free. Use the combine feature. :) Its a great little photo program.

No on the G+, you have to manually share the link on the business page. Hopefully that will change in the future with G+...
