Some Beginner Questions (Shipping etc.)

Hello everybody,

I just opened up my shop a week ago and I'm all new to this and still try to figure things out. I have a couple of questions for now.

1. Shipping. I have done one sale so far so I know a little bit about it BUT I was wondering how it works when people get multiple items?. Does Etsy just automatically add it up or is there an option that I can put in shipping costs and then people pay? Currently I offer two different sizes of prints including mats and my shipping costs are focused on the larger print. First I wanted to ship worldwide but when I saw what a difference it was in postage for the smaller print (Its not much for the USA buyers but for everybody else..) I changed it again just to ship inside the USA (plus worldwide shipping seemed a little bit complicated for the beginning). Maybe somebody can help me and explain this to me about shipping.

My second question: How many items should you have to make some sales? Is there a general rule or does it just depend? I just have 13 at the moment but of course I want to add more in the future. I also thought about doing something customized to (hopefully) attract more buyers. I also would like to offer some items where I donate part of the sales price to good causes and also do some originals. So at the moment I have some ideas what I want to do but I'm waaaay at the beginning. So I'm thankful for any advise I can get about how to get things moving or just general beginners tips.

Thank your for your time.

Re: Some Beginner Questions (Shipping etc.)

For shipping you can set up shipping profiles where you just put in the weight and dimensions and it auto calculates the price based on where the buyer lives and what service they want. International shipping is easier this way. International shipping is expensive but I think it's still worth providing the option. I worked for the post office for 2 years and currently work at a 3rd party shipping company and I can say international shipping isn't as scary as it seems. It's just expensive. But again people in other countries might be used to paying those higher shipping costs from the us
