Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

My shop is now syndicated. When I search my shop name in google shopping, all of my items shop up, so I know they are all there. When I try to search specific items, I can't find them.....meaning they are probably so far down on the list that they aren't showing in the first several pages.

I'm wondering how to get them to show higher. Do they automatically get pushed up when they've been there longer? Do I have to change things ei. titles, descriptions? Is there a way to better my SEO for Google Shopping?
Thanks,
Colleen

Colleen,
Adjusting your titles and descriptions are the best way to bring your SEO on google shopping up.

Also, its a good sign that all of your items are on google shopping. I'm trying to figure out why Google has only picked up about 1/2 of my items for google shopping, when all of my descriptions and titles are unique.

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

Heather, I must be lucky. I've heard of others who've had shops longer than me & more sales, so I was surprised.

Serenity, How should I adjust them? I've been trying to work on relevency in etsy, but don't know what Google looks for.

Thanks
Colleen

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

Heather- I don't know how they pick. I don't think it has to do with your SEO. I've read that it's just random.
I've been trying to work on SEO since relevency kicked in on Etsy, but not sure if it works the same for Google.
If you look on the left hand side, under promote in your shop, it will say syndication if you're syndicated. I've heard it doesn't help alot, tho. I think most people just do a general Google search, which my items had been showing up in since I joined Etsy.
I never knew about searching Google Shopping until I came here.

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

Collene,
Your first 3 words in yoru title are the most important. take this listing...
http://www.etsy.com/listing/69401837/lottery-ticket-fabric-purse-handbag

I would list it as "Fabric Purse Handbag Lottery Print Blue Tote"

And then make your description very descriptive, and make it read like a book. Google likes correct grammar, and the first few sentences are the most important. Something like "This is a beautiful handmade fabric purse in a blue based lottery theme print. The gorgeous fabric handbag features coins, scratch off lottery tickets, and other gambling and lucky icons. This fleece fabric purse has 4 pockets for everything you need to carry..." use your tags a lot, and leave your measurements to near the end. You can refer to some of our listing to see how we use the keywords a lot like 'chainmail bracelet' and 'dragon scale' to get to the top of Google shopping. If you Google 'Chainmail Necklace' we have items on page 2, 4, 5, etc....

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

How about commas separating each word/idea in the title? I have commas in everything but I'm wondering if they are just taking away characters from the amount google looks at in each title. I wanted to separate each idea with a comma because according to google Ad words the separate words/ideas are the most searched with the least competition, but I'm not sure if that how it works. Anyone know?
Thanks, Grazie, Gracias! ;)

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

Heather,
Loose the Commas. Google doesn't recognize them in any usable fashion for your seo. They just take up space.

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

No problem ladies! I'm glad to share what has worked for us! I'm still tweaking and adjusting all of my listings, and probably will continue to do so forever. Since I want to stay on top of the searched in both Etsy and Google, I make sure to tweak and readjust stuff as needed since they both change their algorithm ever couple of weeks it seems. The good news is once you find something that basically works for you, you just need to change a few words to 'refresh' it on the searches.

Hi, just saw this thread, read through it and checked to see if I was syndicated--and lo and behold, I am. Surprise surprise. Wouldn't have known anything about or even to check. Thanks so much!

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

Michele- If your shop is syndicted, then it will be picked up in the Google Shopping searches. Google has an organic search, that should already have your items listed in. But, from what I've heard, most people search "google" not "google shopping" so I'm not sure how much it really helps.

Serenity- I'm taking your advice & slowly re-doing all of my titles & descriptions. I'm going category by category, so this might take me awhile! I really stink at writing.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

NB If you are syndicated and don't live in the US you must look on google.com shopping or you most likely won't find yourself. If you live in the UK like me open a Google page and go to the bottom open .com. To our (mine and others I've asked) there are no Etsy listings on co.uk Also a lot of countries don't even have the shopping Beta page that we do in the UK.

If you do look and can't find most of your listings on there you need to go into the missing listings on Etsy and deactivate and then reactivate each on individually. There was a glitch some months ago and this is why is needs to be done. NB not all listings will appear on shopping as Google will consider some duplicates for various reasons.

To find out if you are syndicated see the following for instructions.

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

Colleen you are right Google ie normal searches is still the key thing because even countries with Google shopping beta or not, most people don't know it is there.

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

Hello.. I just checked my shop name in Google shopping, and only one of my current 45 listings appear... I am not sure what I've done right on one, and wrong on the other 44???

I have played around with changing my descriptions, titles, etc... I still have yet to even scratch the surface of SEO... this team is a great resource, and I am trying new things I read. It's a long process, but hope it will pay off in the long run =)

Re: Syndication, Google Shopping & SEO

Hi Hayley

I can see 12

http://www.google.com/search?q=CollierLewisJewelry++etsy&tbm=shop&hl=en&aq=f

Keep an eye on it and if it doesn't get any better in the next few days deactivate and reactivate the missing listings. Some people have had issues with missing listings recently, Google also ignores listings it thinks are duplicates and throws out some with certain words in e.g. free.

As it is such an underused resource at the moment I wouldn't stress about it too much.

If you are amending your titles and tags for relevancy as per Etsy suggestions you are part there for SEO. E.g. Etsy tags are meta tags/key words in the html code, if your keywords are in the first 70sih characters you are good for urls and therefore SEO.

However complicated it might seen a lot of it is just common sense and a lot of people have always been doing the right thing, or nearly all of it, without realising it.
