Relevancy And SEO

To me, relevancy is SEO and SEO is relevancy. Optimizing for exactly what you have will help to lower your bouncer ate help you get more customers. A lot of people still do not get relevancy so I wrote another blog post on the matter and would like to get your opinion.

Re: Relevancy And SEO

Do you hurt your SEO when your shop sells a diverse group of items? Should I have more than one shop so it is more targeted? I sell everything from dog costumes, to american girl sleeping bags, to women's scarves.

Re: Relevancy And SEO

TakeMeWith,
As long as you are optimizing each listing for the item in question you are not hurting anything. Google treats each page individually as does Etsy.

Re: Relevancy And SEO

I think I'm doing SEO right, and I'm listing new stuff daily, i get likes from teams I post in, but not much interest other than that.
I've added more to my titles but wondered if repeating the same word in the title may work against me.
Suggestions welcome

Re: Relevancy And SEO

Thank you for the great info! very helpful!!

pretty same thing with KilnFiredArt:
I am wondering if repeating the same word in the tags may hurt my SEO?
for example one tag with "wedding gift" the other with "personalized gift", or one with "custom" the other with "custom silhouette"....
and what about the multiple keywords in the description?

thanks!
Berna

LOL, I was logging on to ask the same sort of questions! ;) I was under the impression that using a word repeatedly in a title was a waste of space, but then some of the folks in Site Help were saying how much it's boosted their relevancy. :-/

The only thing I can speak on is keywords. (And that only a little!) I am using multiple keywords...I think they help, depending on the search terms you think a buyer would use. I stuff my tags (following the rules, of course!) with relevant phrases such as "knitted rag rug" or "gold tshirt rug". Since I did that, "rug" and "rag rug" dominate our shop's keyword stats. Still, we've only sold one rug since we started in early summer, so you can be the judge as to whether or not we're being successful. ;)

Descriptions are the bain of my Etsy experience - I hate the writing more than anything else. :P I would say, though, please describe your item's size (whatever it may be - jewelry, textile, even food). A lot of sellers do not, and it makes comparision shopping a little tricky sometimes!

Re: Relevancy And SEO

Since Etsy looks for exact keyword phrases in your tags is is advisable to have variations using the same words. I use chainmail jewelry and chainmail bracelet and all variations of the spellings for my tags. It does help with relevancy. Having the same word multiple times in your title does not seem to be as helpful.

Re: Relevancy And SEO

Thanks for clearing that one up. I think my key words have relevancy, maybe no one is looking for what I'm selling no matter how it is described.
