Quick Tagging Question

All the photos of my jewelry have different background colors. Because the jewelry itself is pictured in silver, I only put "silver" in the tags and omit the background, and I use the other 13 tags for things I think would be relevant to buyers' search terms. I know buyers don't search for background colors, but treasury makers do. So I was wondering if it would be worth it to use one of the 14 phrases for the color, just for treasury inclusion, which would (hopefully) also translate to sales.
Let me know what you think, would it be worth tagging?

Thanks for your help and advice!

Jen

Re: Quick Tagging Question

Ooooo I never thought of that!
If I could think of really good tags to fill all the 'spaces' for an item then I don't think I'd bother....but sometimes I just use my shop name for a tag because I really can't think of another relevant tag at that time. I might try this instead! I always search colours when making a treasury so this might be a useful tactic!

Re: Quick Tagging Question

No, please don't tag with the background colour.

The purpose of the tags is to describe the item being sold. The buyer really doesn't care what colour background you photograph it on.

If I'm looking for a blue ring for example and you've photographed your pink ring on a blue background, I really don't want to see your ring in my search just because you've tagged it with blue.

Re: Quick Tagging Question

Thanks for the advice. You're probably right about that.
The thing is, almost all my jewelry is available in 8 different colors, plus silver. So even though I only have the silver option photographed, I have other color options listed. So if I were to tag it with a color, it would not only be relevent to the background, but also to the customization options of the jewelry itself. Would that affect your view of seeing it in your searches?

Re: Quick Tagging Question

Hey Jen - Technically you're not supposed to tag with background color (it's in Etsy's guidelines), but I do know that it does come in handy for those who are making treasuries. If you have 8 colors of your jewelry, why not consider the tag "rainbow" and also put that in the title, making it clear somehow that the piece is available in 8 colors. Maybe use the pic of all the colors together in some of your listings. I know I did a rainbow treasury recently and would have loved to include one of your word pendants in it, had I found a rainbow version in my searches.
