My apologies but due to time constraints/commitments elsewhere and the influx of requests I am no longer going to be able to write any further critiques for the time being. For the same reasons we have also had to completely change the service formerly given on SASsy Critiques.

Sorry if you have had to wait and sorry if you won't now receive a critique. You can however read those already given and apply to your own shop as I use a generic format and amend to each shop ie the basic information is already in all the critiques already given.

The information now on SASsy Critiques also contains a generic critique which covers more than just SEO/relevancy.

Hi Patricia

Some of this is SEO, some of this is more Etsy relevancy related.

Shop title/header - ok, however is it specific enough for your products? Take out 'on Etsy' for a start so you can add another keyword. Do you have a specific specialist era or clothing type? Even if you don't just adding the word dress or dresses for example can help ie people will search just for vintage dresses as opposed to the wider field of vintage clothing, so include both for example.

Shop announcement - looks good. After the list first line start the rest of the text to appear as a completely new paragraph. Both your shop title and announcement are very important for SEO. You can play around with it in Google preview to see what words fit into the available space the best.

Shop sections - use all 10, each section is a new page on Etsy, a new url and a new potential landing page from search engines. Add further key words to existing sections e.g. add vintage to shawls or as appropriate.

Titles - e.g. this -http://www.etsy.com/listing/92997105/vintage-jacket-blouse-striped-bolero

http://www.etsy.com/listing/92997105/vintage-jacket-blouse-striped-bolero

They seem good ie specific and a decent length. Just make sure you most important key words fit into the url first and secondly into the text available in Google Preview. For the sake of relevancy I would suggest adding colours to the above as well ie black white and possibly seersucker too.

Descriptions - possibly a bit short overall. The first line should always be text from your titles, not necessarily in the same order but the most important words first, using a sentence is good. Then in new paragraphs you need to explain in words everything about the item as if the buyer can't see it. How big is it (imperial and metric), what colour is it, what is it made of, who might like it, how it feels, where might you wear it and so on. For your items include provenance, manufacturer, era, condition and so on. As all description text is potentially searchable by Google you can add lots of information. Add links to other items/sections/policies in your shop. All of this is important for SEO.

Tags - you need to use all available tags space, you also should be using 2-3 word phrases based primarily on the text in your titles as you seem to have done. Tags are to say what the item is and not for potential uses. My only real suggestion is to take out the tag for your shop name unless you know people definitely do search for you this way. If they don't you can be found via Shops and People of course. So use the tag for something else.

Profile - consider adding key words at the beginning before the text that is currently in there. The reason being that profile pages are heavily indexed, or at least seem to be on Google, and are a platform into your shop. It could help searchability by adding the same kind of information in the first line of your shop announcement here too.

Marketing - how are you marketing yourself? This is key on Etsy, you sell yourself, not the site. There are lots of ideas etc on the blog link below.

For further information on how to and to apply etc please do take a look at this SASsy blog page.

Re: Post Your Requests Here - Critiques For SEO/Relevancy

Hi Karen

Some of this is SEO, some of this is more Etsy relevancy related.

Shop title/header - too short ie you haven't utilised all the available space. Add further keywords that say what you sell. Think like a buyer, what words would they use to find items in your shop. Possible other words to include - swarovski elements, iron ons, craft supplies.

Shop announcement - fill the first line of text with key words, a list is fine, ie the most searchable key words that say what you sell. After that you can add anything else you like, just make sure it's in a completely new paragraph separate from the first line. Both your shop title and announcement are very important for SEO. You can play around with it in Google preview to see what words fit into the available space the best.

Shop sections - use all 10, each section is a new page on Etsy, a new url and a new potential landing page from search engines. Add further key words to existing sections e.g. add rhinestones to all of them or as appropriate.

List more items - the magic number is meant to be around 100. The more items you have the most listings to be searched on Etsy, the more urls you have the more pages to be indexed by search engines.

Location - nothing to do with relevancy or SEO as such but this isn't in the correct format and most likely means you won't appear in local searches. Go to Public Profile, delete the current text, start typing in your home town/city, select the appropriate given, save it. US locations appear like this New York, New York, United States.

Titles - e.g. this -http://www.etsy.com/listing/95094847/swarovski-elements-rhinestones-12ss-flat

http://www.etsy.com/listing/95094847/swarovski-elements-rhinestones-12ss-flat

They seem good ie specific and a decent length. Just make sure you most important key words fit into the url first and secondly into the text available in Google Preview. I would suggest you rearrange the text slightly so that the colour is towards the beginning of the title as I am guessing that people who buy your products know what the item is called firstly and secondly they are probably looking for a specific colour.

Descriptions - too short. The first line should always be text from your titles, not necessarily in the same order but the most important words first. You need to explain in words everything about the item as if the buyer can't see it. Then in new paragraphs you need to explain in words everything about the item as if the buyer can't see it. How big is it (imperial and metric), what colour is it, what is it made of, who might like it, how it feels, where might you use it, what you can do with it and so on. As all description text is potentially searchable by Google you can add lots of information. Add links to other items/sections/policies in your shop. All of this is important for SEO.

Tags - you need to use all available tags space which you haven't yet, you also should be using 2-3 word phrases based primarily on the text in your titles. Tags are to say what the item is and not for potential uses. You don't for example have the colour in there. So tags should be things like amethyst rhinestones, purple rhinestone, swarovski elements, faceted rhinestones, 12ss rhinestones, flat back rhinestones, crystal rhinestones and so on. Take out supplies as you already have Supplies as a tag from your categories ie use it for something else.

I would love a critique! My views are generally low, in the 15-20 range if I relist, maybe in the 25-40 range if I list something new (which I don't have right now), maybe more if I post in forum threads where you "heart the person above you" or something like that. If I do nothing I might have 5-10 views. Maybe 1-2 favorites a day (maybe nothing if I do nothing). Sometimes maybe I don't relist but I tweak my titles and/or descriptions and tags but I don't really know what I'm doing so... there you go :-)

Unfortunately, I work 30 hrs/wk at a day job and I'm in school right now too so I only have snippets of time right now to put into Etsy but I had even less time in November and December and I was actually getting more views and actual sales (nothing mindblowing but sales).

Hello Claire- I have reposted into this thread as you have suggested....thanks

Hello.....I feel a bit overwhelmed about SEO's and the new etsy relevancy searches and so many things you need to know about Google searches and tags etc. I'm pretty new and not a computer person at all so reading about how everyone figures out tags on Google crawls and things like that (if that even makes any sense) is making me wonder if you need to have a lot of website knowledge (?) I work very hard on my products and try to make sure my pictures and everything about my site is professional, so it's not that I don't want to put in any work - it's just computers and web sites are not my strong point.

I was thinking about having a custom SEO done, but they are over $200 so I wasn't sure if there were some things I could figure out for myself first. Then I saw your team, and thought maybe I would start with you guys for some help.

If you can offer any assistance about what I could do in the SEO department, that would be great. If you have any other advise you'd like to give in general to my site, I would welcome that too.

Thanks,
Cyn :)

Hi Amy

Some of this is SEO, some of this is more Etsy relevancy related.

Shop title/header - make sure it is full of key words that say what you sell and utilise all the available space. Think like a buyer, what words would they use to find items in your shop. Is the current text specific enough for what you sell? 'and' is superfluous and won't help in a search. All the other words except jewelery possibly aren't specific enough. What is your USP, your particular style or specialism?

Shop announcement - fill the first line of text with key words, a list is fine, ie the most searchable key words that say what you sell. After that you can add anything else you like, just make sure it's in a completely new paragraph separate from the first line. Both your shop title and announcement are very important for SEO. You can play around with it in Google preview to see what words fit into the available space the best.

Shop sections - use all 10, each section is a new page on Etsy, a new url and a new potential landing page from search engines. Add further key words to existing sections e.g. add stamped to pendants or as appropriate.

Titles - e.g. this -http://www.etsy.com/listing/89305036/whimsical-bird-pendant-in-recycled-fine

http://www.etsy.com/listing/89305036/whimsical-bird-pendant-in-recycled-fine

Make sure for both relevancy and SEO that your most important key words are at the beginning of the text and ideally fit into the url. Again think like a buyer, what words would they use to find this item. Titles do not need to be nice flowing sentences just a list of the best ordered words that describe the piece. Make sure you have enough key words in your title to fill both the url and the Google listing space - see any listing in Google Preview in edit mode. You don't need to include any punctuation as Etsy and Google ignore it plus it can interfere on occasion in searches. A possible suggestion on rearranging the text - fine silver bird pendant necklace ball chain whimsical. Is this type of silver class as recycled?

Descriptions - make sure the first line is always text from your titles, not necessarily in the same order but the most important words first, a sentence is good. Use paragraphs and/or bullets so the text is easier to read. You need to explain in words everything about the item as if the buyer can't see it. What is it, how big is it (metric and imperial), what colour is it, how many do you get, what is it made of, how does it feel, who might like it, what can you do with it, what inspired you, add care instructions and so on. If an item is made to order state the process and timeline etc. As all description text is potentially searchable by Google you can add lots of information. At the end add links to other items/sections/policies in your shop. All of this is good for SEO.

Tags - you need to use all available tags space which you haven't yet, you also should be using 2-3 word phrases based primarily on the text in your titles. Tags are to say what the item is and not for potential uses. Take out spring jewelry and cool mom gifts as they are suggested uses and are not allowed. Take out your shop name unless you know people will search for you this way as you can be found via Shop and People searches. Unless you are really stuck on what to include in tags avoid using more than one team tag per listing ie use as many tags as you can to describe your items. So you tags should be things like silver bird necklace, ball chain necklace, silver bird pendant, bird jewellery, bird jewelry and so on. Necklace isn't in there at all at the moment.

Hi Katelynn and Shirl

Some of this is SEO, some of this is more Etsy relevancy related.

Shop title/header - take out your shop name, it doesn't need to be in there. Make sure it is full of key words that say what you sell and utilise all the available space. Think like a buyer, what words would they use to find items in your shop.

Shop announcement - fill the first line of text with key words, a list is fine, ie the most searchable key words that say what you sell. Shop sections - use all 10, each section is a new page on Etsy, a new url and a new potential landing page from search engines. Add further key words to existing sections e.g. add polymer clay to earrings or as appropriate.

List more items - the magic number is meant to be around 100. The more items you have the most listings to be searched on Etsy, the more urls you have the more pages to be indexed by search engines.

Titles - e.g. this -http://www.etsy.com/listing/94288552/quilled-fairy-yellow-and-silvery-blue

http://www.etsy.com/listing/94288552/quilled-fairy-yellow-and-silvery-blue

Contains repetition. Don't repeat words, you have fairy in there twice, it only needs to be in there once. A possible suggestion on rearranging/changing the text - quilled winged fairy ornament paper sculpture yellow silver blue.

Descriptions - too short. Make sure the first line is always text from your titles, not necessarily in the same order but the most important words first, a sentence is good. Use paragraphs and/or bullets so the text is easier to read. You need to explain in words everything about the item as if the buyer can't see it. Tags - you need to use all available tags space which you haven't yet, you also should be using 2-3 word phrases based primarily on the text in your titles. Tags are to say what the item is and not for potential uses. Quilled quilling is classed as tag stuffing ie they should be in two separate tags. You tags should be things like fairy ornament, quilled fairy, quilling sculpture, yellow and blue, winged fairy, paper sculpture and so on.

Profile - consider adding key words at the beginning before the text that is currently in there and adding more text about you and your work. The reason being that profile pages are heavily indexed, or at least seem to be on Google, and are a platform into your shop. It could help searchability by adding the same kind of information in the first line of your shop announcement here too.

http://www.etsy.com/listing/93966404/dog-leash-pink-polka-dots-4

Too short for relevancy. Make sure for both relevancy and SEO that your most important key words are at the beginning of the text and ideally fit into the url. Again think like a buyer, what words would they use to find this item. Titles do not need to be nice flowing sentences just a list of the best ordered words that describe the piece. You don't need to include any punctuation as Etsy and Google ignore it plus it can interfere on occasion in searches. A possible suggestion on rearranging/adding to the text - dog leash lead pink polka dot ribbon nylon backing 4 inch. Add lead because those of use outside of the US probably wouldn't even think to search for a leash.

Descriptions - loads of useful information for both buyer and SEO. Just make sure the first line is always text from your titles, not necessarily in the same order but the most important words first, a sentence is good. Use paragraphs and/or bullets so the text is easier to read. You need to explain in words everything about the item as if the buyer can't see it.
