Google Keywords

I'm a little confused. When searching for the best keywords for my shop, which matters most... Competition or Number of Searches? It's my understanding that we want a lower number of searches otherwise we get lost in the shuffle, right? But what happens when we factor in "competition"...what does that mean?

Example:
Quote Art - Low Competition - 590 global searches
Quote Wall Art - High Competition - 140 global searches

Thanks for any help!

Re: Google Keywords

Wouldn't it be helpful if google explained this somewhere. I always get confused as well. And everytime I think I understand, someone tells me something different. Maybe I will google it...

Try this.

Re: Google Keywords

It is my understanding that you want High Searches (that's the number of people looking for an item) but Low Competition (that's the number of people selling the item).

Re: Google Keywords

If there are only a few people searching for a term worldwide, then it generally means that its not a highly used search phrase or term.

I tend to mix my search terms to include a mixture of popular search terms and not so popular search terms.

Re: Google Keywords

I'm feeling lost just looking at my shop stats. I have had a number of favorites and the like happening but no sales since early January. I have come to think that what I sell is just not popular except to the niche market of birdwatchers and wild gardeners. When I look at search terms used to find me I don't see that my variety of search terms, popular and highly ranked ones alongside specialty ones, has been of much use. I see that the best search terms have been either my name or the name of my shop whereas I have a long list of ones and twos after other search terms, which may be the result of my own testing of search terms. I feel that I've done the best that I can do in terms of identifying likely search terms a shopper would use and mixing them with search terms of recent popularity. What could I be doing that would make a vast difference--anything?

Sorry, this may be out of place. I should be creating my own thread.
