Re: Getting views but not sales

Sales are a mystery to us, too. Are you promoting off Etsy as well? When we are having a sales slump, it seems to help to up our pinning and blogging, as well as staying active on Etsy. Making treasuries and posting in teams appears to help our SEO over time. :)

Your items are very pretty! The bright colors really pop off the white page. Just keep up the good work. :)

Re: Getting views but not sales

One thing that's really helped me and that I'm still working to improve is to focus views on your target market. Example: This year I started making small original robot illustrations. I marketed them on all my social media and Etsy, but when I started focusing on geek groups, nerd art fans, etc, my sales increased. I actually had to raise my prices because I was selling these robots so fast I couldn't keep up with inventory! I have a long way to go, but I think the key is getting your views seen by the right people. Hope that helps!

Yes, thanks, Lisa! I'd love to hear more about how you focus your marketing on certain groups. How do you do that?

Re: Getting views but not sales

Honestly, I found the robot sales completely by accident, but the best clues were understanding my customers. It's a process, for sure. I discovered that most people who buy my robot illustrations are people in the 30-50 age range (give or take), self-professed quirky people and nerds who like to be silly and enjoy humorous art. I also learned that my work was priced too low at first because everyone bought them in pairs, and kept coming back to buy more. When I raised my prices $5, I got more customers in the door, who actually bought more than two robots, and sometimes paintings with their robot order. I had one middle aged woman buy from me twice because her son collects robots, and she thought my work was funny.

All these experiences form a basis for your target market. Another big help is looking at your shop stats to see who is favoriting and searching for your work. If you have a Facebook page or Google Analytics account, you can actually see the age range, country, etc. of the people who look at your work, and that gives further clues. I admit it takes some time and I am STILL learning more every day. Best of luck to everyone!

Re: Getting views but not sales

Thanks Lisa! That is excellent advice. I definitely notice a difference when I am posting on Facebook and Twitter vs. not. One of my customers recently gave me a tip on what they loved about my jewelry. I figured if she liked it others probably did too. So I am working to integrate that into a few of my products. Hopefully, it will all pay off.
