Can't find my listing in search

I just listed this bag a few hours ago:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/90701540/cross-body-bag

When I do a search, it doesn't show (I went to the 18th page and didn't see it). So I narrowed by price and while my other similar bag came up, this one didn't. Could anyone offer me explanation? I used similar tags as with the similar bag. Is there something else that plays into this?
Thanks :)

Re: Can't find my listing in search

It can take 1-2 days at worst for some items to appear in searches. The best way to start looking is to use a very specific search wording ie specific to that actual listing. If you can find it there then you are probably in the broader searches, you've just missed it some how first time round.

Re: Can't find my listing in search

That's funny...I just posted a similar thread asking the same question on another team. I have searched also and find the same shops come up with several items and I even have some of the same words in the titles...and mine don't show up. Also, it appears to have nothing to do with the amount of views or the date of the listings, I checked. So, I would also like to know why the discrepancy in how Etsy chooses to display listings.

Re: Can't find my listing in search

With a simple search for 'cross body bag' there are over 4,300 items that come up in the search results.

And the fact that you don't have 'cross body bag' as one of your tags is not helping you at all. That should be your primary tag.

You might want to include the colour and/or the size in the title to help you get found as well.

(And check the spelling in your tags. One is listed as 'cross boby bag')

Re: Can't find my listing in search

I totally agree with Crochetgal. I hadn't actually looked at the listing or even noticed the title above. To be relevant for Etsy and optimised for SEO your titles need to say more and your tags need to include all the words from that title.

Titles - at the absolute minimum should fill the url space given and should give enough information so the buyer can tell at a glance before they see the image exactly what it is including things like colour. Titles should be the most searchable words possible for that item. Think like a buyer ie what words would they use if they were looking for this item.

Tags - should be 2-3 word phrases made up primarily of words in your titles. So the first one should be cross body bag. Tags are not the primary information used in Etsy relevancy searches, they are part of it along with other factors but the main resource is still titles so we believe.

You can never fully work out why one item is more relevant than another because we do not know the exact content of the algorithm used and Etsy are not going to tell us that. Unless two items have exactly the same title, exactly the same tags, were listed/renewed at exactly the same time for example you can never make a proper comparison.

This should help make sense of it a little more.

Re: Can't find my listing in search

This has happened to my listings before. I actually went to my item and de-activated it and then re-activated it. Then it appeared in the search. I am pretty sure items are listed by most recent posts to last so if you don't see your item in a search with your key words after a couple hours, I would try to deactivate and reactivate the ad. It's happened to me at least two times.

77Street from 77Street says

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In times of high activity, it can take more than a few hours for an item to appear in the search index.

At some times I've seen it take 6 hours or more!
