Stealing photos

Hey all!

I've had a guy buying sports and beer related things from my shop and re-selling them in his own for four and five times as much as I listed them. Although I question his ethics, the re-selling is not what I take issue with. The problem I have with this fellow is that I noticed he is stealing my photos to list items he has purchased from me. I wrote to Etsy support but I am not sure what they can do. Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?

Re: Stealing photos

Can you point to a sample of your pics on his shop?

I doubt etsy will do anything about it.

Re: Stealing photos

I think he does it with everything he orders for resale. His photos used to be all taken on hardwood floor with an orange hue and now he has a substantial number of photos that don't look consistent with his previous sets.

I contacted Etsy's legal department about it.

Re: Stealing photos

If those are photos that you took, there's definitely a question about property theft. He's allowed to resell whatever he buys from you, but using your photos without permission is a horse of a different color.

Re: Stealing photos

Susan, I thought the same thing!

Etsy legal removed the photos within 48 hours of my complaint!

Re: Stealing photos

Glad to hear that it worked out in your favor. That's pretty underhanded of him to steal the photos, not recognizing that they are just as much a result of your labor as the items he purchased from you.

Someone mentioned putting your store name on every photo like a watermark. Sounded like a great idea to prevent something like this happening in the future. I don't know the particulars on how you'd go about it, but definitely something to think about.
