Guy chat for June

This is where we can chat about things in general. It's a public thread, so keep that in mind.

Come in, say hi, pick up on a subject or make one up. Keep it nice & fair.

I'll start off with something I was chatting about the other day. Sports cars. I myself, have had a few over the years. Started with a Triumph Spitfire, graduated to an Alfa Romeo Spyder. Neither one was new.
I have had the pleasure of using many others (being I used to turn a wrench at a Mercedes dealership). I detested the Ferrari loaner, couldn't fit my feet in the Lancia & will always compare cars to the Maserati.

Anyone else?

Wow , nothing that flash here , but I am currently driving probably the flashiest car I've owned - a Mitsubishi Triton Ute v6 GLXR with RIDICULOUS rims . A car to me has usually been to get from A to B , but I am enjoying this car even though it guzzles a lot of gas !

Re: Guy chat for June

Well that's cool. The Mitsubishi Triton is a neat vehicle. Many people are AB drivers, & that's fine. I'm more of the "I want to enjoy the ride" kind of guy. I currently am driving a Kia Sportage. No flash comparison to any of the above. I traded my LeBaron convertible for it a few years back. Mostly a work need, & the LeBaron doesn't have the off road clearance the Sportage does ;}).

I haven't tricked it out, either. Just mind blowing stereo & a K&N filter in the "flash" department (ooohhh). Probably the most reserved I've been on any of my rides. Options, add-ons or trick. Heck, even the LeBaron had 60's it could light up.

Re: Guy chat for June

Yeah, I hear ya Murray. What kind of Toyota do you have? You do any mods to it? Are you a modding kind of guy for your rides?

So what would you get on that payday? Something new, something classic?

Re: Guy chat for June

Good Morning fellas,

My current vehicle is a Diamond Back mountain bike. :~D

I used to buy and sell vehicles from police auctions. Too much paperwork and greasy fingers but I did get to drive many interesting things.
My favorite, that I drove for nearly two years, was a 1972 Plymouth Fury. 2 door with a 318. Massive car that glided across the road. BEST power steering ever put in a machine. Flip-flop headlights were fun too.

The Spitfire and Spyder sound like great cars. I'm too lanky to fit in either one but they are great to look at :~D
I like convertibles too!

Someday I'd like a 60s Lincoln with suicide doors. I'd need to mortgage the house to fill the tank though.

Happy Thursday ~
Dan.

We have a 2009 Vauxhall Astra, and used as the runabout, by my wife mostly.

We also have 2003 Mini Cooper S, now this is my baby, and try not to let the wife drive it. I try to keep the miles down, it currently has 60000 miles. I intend to keep it for many years.

Re: Guy chat for June

@David, great points. I am happy w/my Korean Kia Sportage. It's well built.

@Daniel, a `72 Fury huh? Neat. A mean looking Plymouth. I had a `66 III, what a beast! It had a 318 long block, what a bear to get specs for. I enjoy the MOPAR line up, & had a `73 Charger that I rebuilt. Stopped rating it after 425hp, because who cares after that? It would take the wheels off the ground. Passed everything but "gas stations". You could check your speed, by looking at the fuel gauge ;}).

I've always enjoyed sports cars. I used to look like a giant in the Alfa. That one I drove with the seat all the way back, "Italian" style.

@hudsonandgeneral, the Astra is a neat little car. Nice wedge looks to it. I hear you on keeping the Cooper for awhile. I never got in to the new Cooper, but had a friend who had one. Nicely done, I'll say.

Re: Guy chat for June

Cars, my favorite past time!

I've always been a Pontiac fan and RA IV GTO's and Super Duty Trans Am's are my all time favorites! My daily driver up until very recently was a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT. The last of the LS2 & LS3 based RWD V8 power before the brand got the axe.

I've gone a complete transition from GM to the Dodge lineup, I currently own a Dodge Dart Limited with the 1.4L turbo and 6 speed auto shift. It's a little weird going from close to 400 HP to 140 HP but it's a fun little car.

Re: Guy chat for June

Wow, that's a transition in power Steve! Some pretty nice rides there man. GM to Doge huh?

Nothing like the feel & sound of a big block V-8. Though I had a great exhaust system on my Alfa (& there is no musical note that sounds greater than hearing the scenery being sucked in the velocity stacks, & pushed out the glass pack), the rumble of a mighty V-8 through dual sewer pipes, can't be mistaken.

Re: Guy chat for June

Yeah, GM to Dodge. There's a method to my madness though, the Dart will eventually become my daughters first car in several years when she turns 16. I'll go back to a V8 at that point. Although my wife does drive a 12' Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7L Hemi. An SUV with 360HP fulfills my need for speed when I get the itch ;-)
