Improving aviation art SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tags ...

Aviation Art is a very specific unique art form. Those willing to look for aviation art know the specific keywords/tags to enter into the search engine to find aviation art. But what about those prospects that are not really looking for aviation art per say, but would probably enjoy this technical drawing style, or they like aviation but are not really aware of aviation art. The solution to reach a wider audience is to use a mix of very specific SEO tags, and vague SEO tags. Remember to use SEO tags that represent what you are trying to have found in a search engine. So lets use my avatar as an example for the use of improving SEO tags, Its an original graphite pencil drawing of a MiG-29 Fulcrum accelerating wildly in afterburner... That is a great product description...your product description is part of SEO tags... Now I would enter a mix of vague, and specific SEO tags relevant to my drawing that are phrases (limited to 20 characters) not individual words (use all 13 of them)... such as... "fine pencil drawing"(vague for a wider audience)... "Mikoyan MiG-29 FULCRUM" (specific)... "military fighter jet"(vague).. etc... to reach a wider audience with improved SEO tags try to think like a prospect using the search engine... Next discussion I will share information that is found here on Etsy about "clickability" .... improving photo presence ...this is just as important as SEO tags...

just putting something up here on Etsy and sitting back waiting for someone to notice is not going to ever compete with the very professional "knick knack sellers selling needlework and such... they dominate Etsy because they take this *&^% seriously like professionals!!! SEO tags !!! this is SO important....use all 13... plus use a great product description!!! improve, always improve!!!

If you are having trouble thinking of SEO tags please ask for help here... If we help each other out as a team we will all improve as a team.. The treasury I started Aviation Art has some very good SEO tags and so does the team Aviation Artists on Etsy so please check out these SEO tags for ideas, and ask for help if brain storming for tag words is not working for you... lets come together as a team!

I cannot emphasize enough about the importance of very good well balanced SEO tags (vague and specific tags related to your item)... One way to check on the effective use of your tags is to log out and search "Aviation Art"... how are you doing in that search? Is your item on the first or second page? If your item is buried deep in the pages you may want to re-evaluate your SEO tags for that item... Oh did you know that Etsy pays Google to run ads in its search engine... So it doesn't hurt to include your name in your product description as that is part of SEO tags... Lets come together as a team and share ideas for SEO tags...If you need help with your tags please ask for the help here... Include your item here that has the least amount of views and then copy and paste the SEO tags you are using for that item..Lets come together as a team and help each other out!

Generic tags like castle and knight seem to bring quite a bit of traffic through my site. Also it's worth putting in different spellings. Boardgame and board game both attract a lot of visitors. I always try to include both British and American spellings and spellings in other languages where appropriate. .

Also think like a non-aviation collector.. think like a mom. "Wall art" ,"Bedroom Decor", "Blue aeroplane", "Clouds".. "original art" .... be vague as well as specific. 90% of all buyers on here are American - use their spelling as often as is appropriate.

Let's not forget that tags should be relevant to the actual piece of art - if knights and/or castles are actually in the context of the listing, by all means include them, but search engines do penalize for "improper use". Imagine the hits if you were to tag with "sex"...

Misspellings and alternate spellings are very valuable I have found through the years, they have generated many hits for me. I have another shop with vintage books, tagged both with "armor" and "armour", etc.

Adding predominant colors/colours of the piece is also helpful for exposure on Etsy, especially in treasuries. Many Etsians like to keep their treasuries in one color/colour scheme, so "blue", "gray/grey", "red", etc. may get you into an otherwise unexpected feature spot.
Child's room, man cave, wall decor, office decor....

What are everyone's top searches? My highest ranking hits are for "Aviation," "Airplane," and 'Vintage Airplane." I tend to re-use a lot of the same tags so that groups of my work will show up together. I also agree with Cecilia that adding a color can land you in various searches and treasuries.

Someone here mentioned including both American and British spellings of things, but I've noticed that with the word "jewelry," for example, my items will come up if I use the alternate spelling of "jewellry." Of course, the letters are all the same, except for the extra "l" in the second one, but I realized at one point that I was wasting spaces by including the two different spellings in my tags.

I suppose if the British and American spellings are *really* different, like "aeroplane" vs. "airplane," using both would make sense.

I've come across some spectacular aviation items from people who don't even realize what it is they are trying to sell (mostly vintage items). There was a lady who had titled her P-38 pin with something along the lines of "adorable small spitfire".

Often times I will see things I wouldn't mind buying under the tag "jet plane"...the items I find are usually single engine aircraft like a Cessna 172 or something like that.

One really good tag I find has gotten a lot of views for me is "aircraft". Although I've had mixed results with some UFO images/items.

When I'm tagging my items though I often use these:
aircraft, airplane, flight, flying, vintage

And I also include the other descriptors of what I am selling, such as jewelry, silk cord, paper, post card, etc

Including colors can also be helpful. A lot of the time someone will like something because of the colors in it.
