Currency

Hi All, I am new to this team. I was wondering which currency most of you list your items in, and if you think it makes a difference to sales. I currently list in AUD but am thinking of changing all my listings to US$ as that seems to be by far the largest audience and most shoppers. Thoughts?

Re: Currency

That sounds like a good compromise Kathy. I was thinking I may be putting off US buyers with odd amounts that the currency exchange displays.

Re: Currency

RE currency, here is a post from a shop owner when i was on a forum about currency..... 2 different options for you !

You can change your settings so that your prices are set in the currency of your choice.

And then, there is a different setting, which is how each etsy member CHOOSES to see prices. So I can choose to see all Etsy prices in USD, even if sellers has set them in another currency.

Re: Currency

I don't think buyers are deterred by odd cents prices. Something to consider - if you set your shop as USD, Paypal and your bank will charge foreign transaction fees for each deposit coming in as USD. Your actual profit will vary depending on the exchange rate.

Re: Currency

Good to know, thanks Jennifer.
I have my shop set now again in Australian dollars, otherwise i noticed when prices were rounded up in US dollars ,my prices were actually more than i listed them as.
I figure i am an Australian shop and that's it.It has not deterred any US buyers so far !

Re: Currency

Thanks girls, yes I think I'll keep my australian prices, it makes it easier at this end. Plus it might encourage more aussie buyers :-)

Re: Currency

I don't think anyone in the US would be deterred by unusual amounts as their currency doesn't need to be rounded to the closest 5 cents like ours does. If anything Australian customers might get deterred. Best to keep everything in AUD in my opinion.

Re: Currency

I think I have an almost equal balance of US and Australian buyers with an occasional EU and Canada sale.
