Selling art as a set? Advice Needed!!!

I have two paintings that I just recently listed separately however I am wondering if I should have listed them together to sell them as a set. I am debating whether or not it is better to give the option to customer and if they want both then they could just purchase both OR list them as a set to keep the paintings together for customers who like purchasing sets of 2 or 3 paintings that will go together? How do you all feel about listing paintings as a set? I could really use your advice and opinions on this!

Kamara, good question. I wish I knew the answer. I had a set (3) tripytch and it didn't sale. So I separted them. Then someone was interested in a pair together and then chose another different painting.
Try including them in your 5th photo frame reference as availability as a set and put into your description listing as an option.
Also, reference the listing link inside your description for them access to the additional painting. Good luck. Would love to know the outcome. And your decision.
On another note, I listed a pair separately and one sold and I couldn't contain myself to ship it without the other. I took a loss, only financially, by including it with the other. It just told a story that I could not resist letting go without it's mate. The customer was extremely appreciative of the story as well as the gift. So, on my experience, if you believe strongly they are a set then list together.

Re: Selling art as a set? Advice Needed!!!

Wish I could give a definitive answer. I have a set of small 4x4 inch paintings that have been for sale for a while. I've priced them so they are a much better price as a set than they would be individually, but no sales yet. I've renewed the set once; if they don't sell, I'll probably divide the set up and sell them separately at a higher price per painting. I think this is a tough call because people have such diverse taste and it is difficult to predict what they might like.

Oh, that is a tough one. I agree with Sheri in that including the link to the other pieces in your description can go a long way if you choose to list them separately (it's what I do- although I've never sold a set!) Also I like her idea of having the 5th pic as a pic of the set together.

It is so true that people are all so particular and different in their preferences. One more reason why I like to keep them listed separately. Let us know how it turns out and post the listing for us :)

I haven't sold paintings, but I find that if someone is interested in two or more items, they either buy them both outright or contact me to see if I will give a discount if they buy more than one item. I do, and it has always worked out.

Re: Selling art as a set? Advice Needed!!!

Thank you all for your advice and sharing your experiences, it really gave me a lot to think about. I think I will probably keep them listed separate because like you all said people's preferences differ and I would not want to keep them as a set if customers are interested in the pieces separately. Thanks Sheri for the suggestion of using one of the pictures to show the pieces together and putting it in the listing as an option. I did not think to do that but it really makes a lot of sense and the best way for me to offer a set without closing the option of selling them separately. Also, pogotown I really like the idea of offering a discount if they choose to buy more than one. Thank you I really appreciate the advice and tips! :)
