Certificate of Authenticity?

Is it necessary? Some of my research says no. What do you think and know.

If you use it where do you get them?

I just make them on my computer, print them out, and fill them in by hand. I number them to keep track.

My understanding is that this mostly applies to prints that are in limited editions. I don't include them unless a customer asks for one. Then I just print it off my computer.

I just started making them. I use small envelope size card stock so I can fit them with smaller paintings, too. I also have a signature stamp that I use to stamp both the certificate and the back of the canvas (sheri's suggestion). Customers like it, but it is extra work.

COAs are not really for today--they are for 100+ years from now. We don't know how any of our work will be judged 100 or 200 years after we're gone. Just something to think about.

I have gone smaller paper just because of SK Cole's thoughts. Most Art Galleries still continue to # and provide COA's. I had a customer request one for insurance purposes.
Is UVA varnish necessary for our paintings?
