Welcome!

Welcome to the team!

Why don't we start out by telling each other a little bit about ourselves.

I am from Little Rock, Arkansas but will be moving to Saint Louis, Missouri to attend grad school in the fall. Eventually, I plan on being a Family and Marriage Therapist with a focus on Sex Therapy. Art is something I do as a hobby. It is also something that is an outlet for me. I am a very passionate person and art allows me to express this. I am a huge fan of Klimt. I love artwork that is strange or confusing and I REALLY love art that has a story behind it and conveys a lot of emotion.

Creating art is a very spiritual process for me. I even consider it meditating. Anything from photography to painting to writing to wood work creates a lot of spiritual energy in me.

Tell me a little bit about your experiences with artistic spirituality!

:)

Re: Welcome!

I'm from Auburn, CA. I started making rosaries when my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I gave them to the members of my family and made a very special one for my mom to give her some comfort. She used to love to play with the beads as I was making the rosaries, and I still feel a special connection with her when I make them. I still remember the rosary I made for her (she was buried with it) - it was sterling silver, lapis lazuli, and quartz crystal. It was beautiful! It has a St. Anne center - the patron saint of moms.

I joke that when I should be praying the rosary, I end up making one instead! It's my own meditative time (like you burnettke!) , and I love doing it. I especially love working with natural stones - it makes me feel like I'm creating something with the help of God and nature.

Do any of you enjoy working with natural stones as well?

Here's some of the rosaries with my favorite stones:

Re: Welcome!

HI! I'm from Michigan's Beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula (In Upper Michigan). I've been making art in one form or another for as long as I can remember, and have finally settled into just a few now that carpal tunnel and DeQuervain's has settled into my hands. :(

I'm currently a spinner, and I spin mostly sheep's wool into yarn. Sometimes I will crochet or knit it into something, but more than likely I end up hoarding it. So I opened a shop on etsy to "destash". I am also a seamstress, mother, grandmother, and an all around "old school" artist.

I prefer spinning right now, as it's very soothing and meditative. Sometimes too much so, as I've been known to "fall asleep at the wheel". :D

Re: Welcome!

Hi I'm from Calgary Canada
Currently my artistic media is digital art (make it easier when you have kids to not have to worry about them touching the painting till it's dry)
I draw flowers and babies and anything else I see that inspires me! Mostly the inspiration comes from nature.
I also feel very close to God when I am creating, which makes sense since god is the Creator!

Re: Welcome!

Hi everyone, my name is Joel and I'm from Southern California. Currently building my etsy store and focusing on interacting with you all, and really becoming a part of the team. My art is very creative, urban, and "tattoo-esque" if you will. I've been an artist my entire life, and I work with anything from paint to digital media. Hope to share my art with you and vise versa.

Hi! I"m Tessa from PA, and I've been working on adding more and more spiritual and inspirational pieces to my store. I create jewelry using natural gemstones and I really enjoy creating each piece unique to someone who I hope will be equally inspired by it.

Re: Welcome!

Hi folks, I'm Amy from New England - I live in MA, but my Studio is in RI. I've pursued textiles since I was a kid, always fascinated with the spiritual side of creativity and craft, as well as the ways all cultures have used and appreciated objects throughout history. I strive to understand who we are, what we do, how we do it, and why, in all things. I'm glad to have found some fellow etsians of a similar outlook.

Re: Welcome!

Hello!
I'm Alexis. I've been crafting and creating as far back as my memory goes. I love to make miniature things, paper creations, and projects that are very time intensive, i.e. pointillisms, that I can just get into that special zone-out groove with (the one you come out of with hand and back aches about 4 hours later!).
