SO,

Yesterday I had some spare time, so I decided to post a thread on the Etsy Success thread, telling people I'd make them a new banner for free.

I did as many people as I could (7ish), I really enjoy making banners so it wasn't any trouble.

I've decided to create a 'Banner Design' service for £4 a banner. I always create 2 banners for the person to pick from, so it's really only £2 a banner. Which I don't think is bad. I'd be happy to do them for free but It would take up all my time, leaving me with no time for my watercolours.

Good design services may charge more than $100 for a banner, provided you already have your logo done and your colour sheets. So yours are a steal.

Everything on Etsy has a price, Even listing something for free takes time (and money cause one is the other as they say). By offering your design service with a fee, even a small one as you currently do, will comfort you in that when doing design and not doing watercolour, at least you are financially rewarded.

I can go cheap (this is what I'm trying right now with pouches and small decorative items) but I will not do anything for free. When people start to know that you can do for free, if you want to start to charge for your service, they won't be happy.

And the worst customer/client experiences I had are those who got my work for free
