How it works:

List your item as usual on YOUR OWN account. Tag it "Artist Aid" or "Japan" "Tsunami Relief..." whichever you are comfortable with. Come back here & share your link. The collective group will promote via Twitter, Blogs, Facebook, etc. Build treasuries, etc.

**We do NOT sell your items for you. This is your responsibility. We're only a means of getting the word out. A larger voice instead of shouting alone. This gives you control over your money & the charity YOU support.**

Please remember to follow Etsy's rules on Charity. That can be found here:

http://www.etsy.com/policy/dosdonts#charity

Thanks so much for your efforts.

Re: How it works:

Please don't forget to promote, promote, promote! This is the key to making sure we're successful in our efforts. Promote your items, promote your friends items...promote your mortal enemy's items....If they've listed their stuff here, promote!

As Lisa suggested, we definitely need a tag so that it's easier for the world, and ourselves, to find our charitable listings. What do you all think of "japan relief" or "tsunami relief?" It's a very common sense tag - something that a buyer might think to search for without any sort of prompting. By using & promoting this keyword, we also help other sellers that want to help, but either might not know about our group - or just truly don't want to join. The important thing, regardless, is to get the word out on behalf of all of us.

Thoughts?

Re: How it works:

I think everyone should also put their items in the featured listings in their shop that are going to aid. As I've done in my shop.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/Abbyka

That way customers can find them easily no matter what page they are on.

Re: How it works:

This is a fabulous idea and thanks for getting it going. My understanding is that we tag the items from our shops that we chose for the cause and then when we are payed through PayPal by the buyer we then pay it forward to the Red Cross or charity of choice ... is this correct or can the $ somehow go directly to the charity of choice ? I'll check back or u can message me with the info. Thanks again ... Joan M Kelly

Re: How it works:

Abbyka - that's an EXCELLENT idea. I'll go do this myself.

Cosmiksouls - Yes, Exactly. Tag it, promote it, then carry on through the sale as usual. Once the item has been paid for, go ahead & donate where you feel your money will be best spent. I've provided a list of charities, but there are many, many more. The power is totally in your hands! :D

Re: How it works:

Thanks Riveting Art ... I want to chose doctors Without Borders .. is this ok ? A family friend does volunteer work for them so I can check with her how to be sure it's earmarked for jpan relief efforts. Also, can we all post our chosen items for this cause to a thread so that we may cross promote one another. It's a win win ... and it is really all about getting these items purchased so monies can be donated. let me know if there is something set up for this already. Also, treasuries for this if Etsy will ok it would be highly effective. Thanks ... TTYL ... Joan M Kelly

Come find me on Facebook and fan me and I will do the same back ... this might make it easier to cross promote this effort via Facebook. I'll check back for ur links in a bit ... power in numbers ... this is so great !<3

Re: How it works:

Hey there -

Ok, so apparently, each individual would need to obtain permission to the charity they choose. I'll get to work on compiling a list of contact information for doing so to make the process easier.

Yes. There's a thread going already where you may feel free to post the items you've chosen. You may find it here: http://www.etsy.com/teams/8446/artist-aid/discuss/6814647/page/3/

I think we're going to need to keep this thread & that thread bumped as there seems to be some confusion.

Thanks again!

Re: How it works:

Thank you for putting this team together.

In addition to our own sales, it would help to support our Japanese friends on Etsy. For example, http://www.etsy.com/people/tomomaru who's studio was damaged in the earthquake. His work is incredible (I've bought several pieces from his shop).

Re: How it works:

Hi,
first of all, thank you for creating this team.
I've made a section for charity items in my store and passing the words online. Sometimes the least you can do becomes the best you can do.

Re: How it works:

Does anyone have a specific charity that they recommend??

With the Australia Relief Efforts the money raised went directly to the Australian Government.

As with the Australian Relief Efforts, I designed two rings EXCLUSIVE to the Japan Relief Efforts, however, I cannot find how to donate directly to the Japanese Government. Is there a way?

I'm hesitant to list the rings in the shop until I am clear on to whom I'm donating.

Thanks!!

xo,
MJ

Re: How it works:

For every painting purchased in my shop, I am donating one third of the amount to the Red Cross. And I am tagging my items with "Japan tsunami relief", "Earthquake relief" and "Art for Japan".

My shop is at http://nithya.etsy.com.

Mercurious: does this help?

http://www.charitynavigator.org/

I know there's a website that tells you exactly where the charities are spending their $$. Let me have my coffee & I'll see if I can't find it.

Re: How it works:

Yes, but you must adhere to Etsy's rules on Charity:

http://www.etsy.com/policy/dosdonts#charity

I have not been naming a specific charity in my listings, but have been providing a link back to donations pagess so that donation clients can see that their money has undoubtedly gone to charity. You might say this in your listings as well.

Ugh. Sorry. My keyboard is wonky, with a mind of it's own. That should read:

Re: How it works:

How do you provide a link back to pages of Charity organizations? Does the amount get automatically deducted from your paypal when you have a sale? I have no idea about this, could you please elaborate?
