To twitter or not to twitter?

Hi everyone!

I'm brand new to the group and to Etsy. I love creating things and hope to that my shop can be successful and generate an income for my husband and I. I have read some of the "tips and tricks"and am trying to implement them in my shop. My question is to twitter or not to twitter? I have a facebook page for my shop and I understand how to run it and am always putting something on there to keep my customers interested, and I have a twitter account but I don't understand twitter. I've read that to promote yourself if you don't understand something or if its not comfortable don't do it, is that true? Will having a twitter account really change the amount of traffic I get?

Love your shop!

I joined Twitter a few weeks ago...and I have found it very useful in getting to know others in the 'craft' community. It has also helped me to tweak what I do as I have been able to look at what other people are doing....as well as having it open up new opportunities for me. I'm not sure if it has helped my shop traffic, but I have learned a lot from it.
I still don't really know what I am doing though....but I think that's cos I am too old to know what a lot of the shorthand and # stuff means!

I have a facebook page and twitter account for my shop. Personally, I don't think that either has helped me get many views or sales. I still maintain them, and I suppose it helps me be visible and get some interest outside of Etsy, but I think people who are new to Etsy are reluctant to buy on it. All my sales have been from people who are already active on Etsy. Every little bit helps though and who knows, I might get a sale from fb or twitter sometime!
