Updates to shipping on Etsy for sellers who ship domestically from the United States

Hi everyone,

We’re investing in our shipping tools to make the experience of selling on Etsy more streamlined, so you can spend more time on the part of your business you love. Over the next few months, we’ll be making improvements to our shipping tools so you can seamlessly share order details with shoppers and spend less time answering questions.  A smoother process means time savings for you and happier customers. These changes will apply to listings that ship from the United States to a buyer in the US. They won’t apply to digital listings and some exclusions may apply. Learn more

What’s changing

Add estimated delivery date details to save a listing or shipping profile to help buyers feel more confident making a purchase.

We’ve started to require a shipping carrier, mail class, processing time, and origin zip code when you create or save a listing or shipping profile. We use these details to show shoppers an estimated delivery date on your listing, which lets them know when to expect their order. In the next few months, they’ll also be required when renewing listings. We’ll share more details before that change happens. 

Add tracking before marking an order as complete and save time answering shipping questions.

Starting August 11, 2021, you'll need to add a tracking number to any order $10 or more shipped to a buyer in the US before you can mark it as complete. We know that it’s not always possible to offer tracking, so you’ll have the ability to opt out of adding if you need.

Mark an order as complete only when it’s with the shipping carrier to avoid buyer confusion. 

This lets shoppers know their order is on its way and gives them a better estimate of when it will arrive. We make it super easy with shipping labels purchased on Etsy—when you purchase your postage, just choose the date you plan to drop off the package (up to two days in the future) and we’ll automatically mark the order as complete on that date. FAQs

Do these changes apply to my shop if I don’t ship from the US?

No, right now these changes only apply to listings that ship from the US to customers in the US. If you’re based outside the US, but ship your items using a third party in the US, these changes will apply to your listings that ship from the US.

What if I can’t offer tracking for my particular products?

We know that it’s not always possible to offer tracking, so this change won’t apply to certain types of items. You’ll also have the option to choose “Other” and add a quick explanation for why you can’t add tracking for an order.

Doesn’t buying a shipping label on Etsy mark the order as complete?

Yes, when you purchase a shipping label on Etsy, we automatically mark the order as complete for you. If you’re not planning to drop the package off with the carrier that day, you can choose a ship date up to two days in the future. We’ll mark the order as complete and send the notification to your shopper on the day you choose.
