Updated 10/4: Introducing Star Seller

Hi sellers, 

We have some exciting news to share! Today we’re announcing Star Seller, a way for Etsy to reward shops that consistently offer an excellent customer experience in the areas we know are important to buyers—responding to messages quickly, shipping, and 5-star ratings.

Starting in September, we’ll be showing a special Star Seller badge to shoppers, making it easy for them to identify sellers who have a proven record of offering an excellent customer experience. Plus, Star Sellers will have an increased chance of being featured in our marketing to buyers. 

We’re also introducing a Star Seller dashboard in your Shop Manager. Your dashboard will be updated daily so you can track your progress to becoming a Star Seller, and we’ll support you with customized tips and education along the way—so you’ll always know where to focus next. 

To learn all about Star Seller and check your current progress toward earning your badge, check out this page in your Shop Manager, which will become available to all sellers over the next few hours.

Improvements to Star Seller based on your feedback

Hi everyone! 

Since we announced Star Seller on July 28, we’ve gotten a lot of great feedback from our seller community about how we can improve the Star Seller experience. We wanted to share some changes we’ve made and updates we’re working on as a result of that feedback: 

Messages from Etsy staff do not count toward your message response rate: It’s not uncommon that a seller may receive a message from an Etsy employee, whether it’s for a chance to test new features, or for opportunities to be featured in our marketing to buyers. Based on your feedback, we’re no longer counting messages from admin as part of your overall response rate. 

Return labels: Any second label associated with an order, such as a return or replacement label, will no longer be counted in your on-time shipping and tracking calculation. 

Royal Mail: We are aware that some tracked orders shipped using Royal Mail were not counted as having tracking in our system and were negatively impacting sellers’ shipping performance. We looked into this issue for sellers in the UK who use Royal Mail, and we now have a fix in place, so this should be resolved moving forward.

Messages CSV: We heard that you want the opportunity to dig deeper into your message response rate, similar to how you can look at specific orders for shipping. You’ll soon be able to download a CSV that has more details about your message response rate, so you can better understand which messages are being counted as late.

Thanks for all your suggestions so far! In addition to these updates, which were made based on your feedback, we’re also enhancing our education and help content so you can quickly and easily find the answers you’re looking for. These are just a few of the updates we’re making to Star Seller, and we’ll be sure to keep you up to date on new changes as they become available. Quick update for you all: you can now review your response rate in more detail.

To get a closer breakdown of your messages, you can download a CSV by going to your Shop Manager dashboard > Star Seller dashboard page > selecting the Message response rate tile > selecting the Export link next to Message breakdown.
