Hello Etsy Community,
My name is James Ossman, and for the past year, I've had the privilege of serving as Vice President and General Manager for International at Etsy.
I'm reaching out because like many of you, we are closely monitoring the latest developments regarding tariffs placed on goods that pass between the United States and Canada, China and Mexico. At this time, our teams are reviewing the official information coming in from the different governments and assessing what this means for the Etsy community. We will provide updates here as they are available.
As always, we are committed to helping you comply with applicable regulations. Thank you for your patience as we work through these emerging changes.

Update on tariffs impacting the United States, Canada and Mexico
Hi all - As a quick update, implementation of tariffs on trade between the United States and Canada and Mexico has been paused for at least 30 days. We are continuing to monitor the situation and determine how we can best support our community, and we will share any relevant updates here as they are available.
Hi all – As you may know, tariffs on goods imported to the U.S. from Canada and Mexico went into effect today. These tariffs currently allow for de minimis exemptions, which means that the vast majority of Etsy orders can currently enter the United States duty-free because they fall below the $800 value threshold.
This situation is evolving, and we expect changes in the coming days and weeks. For example, China, Canada and Mexico have all signaled their intent to implement tariffs on some goods from the United States.
To help you navigate these changes, we have compiled a guide in the Seller Handbook. This will be updated as information is received from government agencies.
Thank you for being part of our global community.
Hi all - I imagine that you, like us, are feeling some whiplash as we navigate the ever-changing news about tariffs together. We’re working hard to stay on top of the latest developments between the US and Canada, China and Mexico.
We have updated our Seller Handbook based on the information available today. The most important thing to know is that de minimis exemptions remain, which means the vast majority of Etsy orders can currently enter the United States duty-free. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
Hi all - Tariffs regulations continue to evolve, and many updates are nuanced and/or impact only certain categories of goods. To make it easier to stay informed, we updated the Seller Handbook to include government resources where you can track the latest news from official sources - including the latest on tariffs between the United States and the European Union.
We’ll continue to share major updates through the Seller Handbook, particularly changes to de minimis thresholds.
Have a great weekend!
Hi all - Our team is hard at work reviewing and analyzing the tariffs announced by the United States today. We will provide an update to the Seller Handbook in the coming days. Stay tuned.
Hi all - We know there is a lot of news to take in as countries around the world change their tariff and de minimis structures. We also know that many of you are following the new tariffs announced by the United States this week especially closely. We have updated the Seller Handbook to reflect the latest.
It’s important to know that as of the US announcement on April 2, de minimis exemptions are in place for goods entering the US, with the exception of items originating from China and Hong Kong, effective May 2. This means the vast majority of Etsy packages entering the US are not currently impacted.
As has been the case, these regulations are evolving quickly and changes are expected in the coming weeks. We will continue to share updated information in the Seller Handbook, as well as tips for running your business as tariffs evolve.
Hi all,
The Etsy team continues to track the latest updates on tariffs impacting trade between the United States and many other countries around the world. It still remains the case that de minimis exemptions are in place for goods entering the US, with the exception of items originating from China and Hong Kong, effective May 2. This means the vast majority of Etsy packages entering the US are not currently impacted.
We have updated the Seller Handbook to include more considerations and tips for selecting a carrier, communicating with buyers, and pricing your items. We hope you find this helpful. The Seller Handbook will remain our source of truth for sharing updates as this situation evolves.
