Testing a new way of communicating Etsy’s protection policies to shoppers

Shoppers are more likely to buy from your shop if they feel confident that their orders will go smoothly and they’ll receive their items. Etsy helps resolve disputes between shoppers and sellers when an order doesn’t go as planned. Through research, we’ve learned that some buyers aren’t aware of the policies and systems in place to protect purchases and payment information on Etsy. We believe that boosting awareness of these protection policies will help buyers shop with confidence.

Starting today, we’ll begin a test that will show some buyers in the United States two new badges: An Etsy Purchase Guarantee badge that will appear on eligible listing pages and a Payment Protection badge in eligible shopping carts. To be clear, we’re continuing to offer the same seller and buyer protections—and testing out a new way of making them more visible to shoppers to encourage them to make purchases. The Etsy Purchase Guarantee badge will let shoppers know that they can resolve any issues with their order through Etsy’s case system after trying to work with the seller. This badge will appear on listings in shops around the world that offer Etsy Payments with integrated PayPal. Orders processed through Etsy Payments give us the information we need to investigate cases and chargebacks.

The Payment Protection badge reassures shoppers that their payment information is protected when they shop on Etsy. This badge will appear in all carts, regardless of shop location, except those that contain items from shops that accept checks, money orders, or “other” payment methods, including payments by mail.

During the experiment, only a small percentage of buyers in the US will see these badges. We’ll let you know if we make these changes permanent.
