Shipments to Canada may be delayed

We have some important news for Etsy shop owners who ship to Canada. Shipments to Canada that are handled by national carriers including the United States Postal Service and Royal Mail via Canada Post may be delayed. The ongoing labor dispute initiated by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) in October is causing country-wide delays. Commercial carriers, such as FedEx, aren’t affected by the strike.

We’ve confirmed that the following shipping carriers are unable to to ship to Canada (or certain cities within Canada) using Canada Post until the situation changes:

-Royal Mail https://business.help.royalmail.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5317/~/international-incident-bulletin

-China Post

-United States Postal Service

If you have an order already on the way to a buyer in Canada via a national carrier, we recommend you contact the customer as soon as possible to let them know that their order may be delayed.

If you otherwise follow Etsy’s shipping policies, Etsy will not hold you responsible for delayed shipments caused by the Canada Post service disruption.

With Cyber Week and the holidays just around the corner, consider looking into commercial carriers as a temporary solution until the situation is resolved. You can also consider updating your shop policies with information about the potential delay. As always, it’s best to reach out to your customers to work on a solution together.

We’ll continue to update this post as we confirm carriers whose service to Canada is stopped.
