Reminder: new tracking requirement for orders shipping from the US starts August 11

As a reminder, starting August 11, sellers shipping from the United States will need to add a tracking number to most orders $10 or more shipped to a buyer in the US before you can mark it as complete.

Why we’re making this change

Shoppers want to know exactly where their package is and when it will arrive, and providing these details to buyers upfront means you can spend less time responding to messages from shoppers looking for their order. Adding tracking also helps with your Star Seller shipping performance, putting you one step closer to earning a Star Seller badge so buyers know you'll meet their expectations.

Plus, tracking offers extra protection for some orders. Any non-delivery cases opened against your shop for orders of $10 or more will be automatically closed when you provide a tracking number that shows the order was delivered.

How it works

When you purchase a label with tracking on Etsy, we’ll automatically share the tracking number with the shopper and there’s nothing else you need to do to mark the order as complete. If you purchase your own label, you’ll need to manually enter the tracking number provided by the carrier when you mark the order as complete.

We know that it’s not always possible to offer tracking, so this change doesn’t apply in the following instances:

  • Digital items, including custom digital items
  • Customized order additions linked to another order
  • Local pickup and delivery options
  • Oversized and heavy items

You’ll also have the option to choose “Other” and add a quick explanation for why you can’t add tracking for an order.
