Etsy Updates: 5 things to know for October 2024

Welcome to our monthly roundup of Etsy updates and community highlights you don’t want to miss …

  1. The magical Etsy Holiday Pop-Up!

We hosted our Etsy Holiday Pop-Up in New York City October 25–27. It was an immersive, in-person holiday shopping experience that featured over 200 Etsy sellers, bringing the magic of Etsy to life! We were joined in person by nearly 100 sellers and over 3.5K shoppers!

Sellers created a memorable experience for shoppers with custom touches: live portraits illustrated by JennKitagawa, DIY charm necklaces by JillMakes, custom chainstitch embroidery with Lu&Company, and a large-scale window mural completed by MyDarlinBK. Plus, Etsy’s Trend Expert Dayna Isom Johnson revealed this year’s Etsy Design Award winners, including this year’s Grand Prize Award winner: Custom Embroidered Linen Tablecloth by GorilMarket.

Head to the Etsy Success Instagram account to catch some of the highlights, and check out our Event Recap in the Seller Handbook for additional photos, Etsy Design Award winners, and this season’s up-and-coming trend picks for the holidays.

  1. We’ve partnered with YouLend to help you get additional funding ahead of the holiday season

We’re committed to helping you grow your business, and know that access to capital can be a helpful way to boost shop growth ahead of the holiday season. We’re collaborating with YouLend, a trusted provider of small business cash advances, for sellers seeking financial support. This program is available for US sellers, with UK and select European countries coming in the future.

Cash Advances could help your business with things like:

  • Purchasing supplies, inventory, and packaging ahead of and through the busy holiday season.
  • Investing in marketing tools to help your shop stand out during the busiest time of year.
  • Expanding your business by hiring more employees.

US sellers can apply for cash advances online directly from YouLend’s website. Eligibility is based on having three months of consistent sales and selling an average of $500 or more per month from Etsy and any other sales platform you use. Once you apply, you’ll receive a decision from YouLend within 24 hours. If approved,  you can accept your offer and receive funds in approximately 24-48 hours. Rest assured that YouLend applies a soft personal credit check, so even if your application is declined, it won’t impact your credit score.

  1. We've expanded Etsy gift card offerings in the US

Etsy gift cards encourage recipients to browse and discover unique items from small businesses like yours. Recently, we launched physical Etsy gift cards that are now popping up in major US stores, including most Target, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Best Buy, Giant Eagle, Ahold Delhaize, and Albertsons locations. This creates even more opportunities for shoppers to think of Etsy for gifts and to help drive more buyers to shops like yours! Learn more about Etsy gift cards here.

  1. Keep an eye out for urgency scams

As we enter the holiday season, keeping your account secure is important. We’ll share security tips with you throughout this busy season, starting with how to keep an eye out for urgency scams.

Urgency scams are when bad-actors message you and try to create urgency and fear, claiming that you need to take immediate action to avoid penalties. Remember, authentic communications from Etsy will always display the "From Etsy" badge. If a message claims to be from Etsy but does not have the "From Etsy" badge, please mark it as spam and do not reply. Get more account security tips here.

    5. Tools, tests, and tweaks

Create an irresistible offer for items that belong together! Now you can curate discounted bundles of listings with our new tool! Select  2–3 complementary items, apply a discount, and encourage larger purchases. Try it out.

We’ll see you next month with a new batch of Etsy Updates. Stay close to the Etsy Community on Instagram and here in the Forums to join the conversation and get the latest updates. As always, we’ll share news you need to know and other updates in the Announcements section of the Forums and in the Seller Handbook.
