Gardening!

Anybody else into gardening? I started my first ever hard core garden this spring. Started planning it mid winter, in January, and my first seeds were planted in March.

Not everything grew the way it was 'supposed' to, go figure, but I do have a garden now!

My zucchini are finally ripening, and so are my cucumbers. Tomatoes are turning orange (they don't get to red, since my kids pick them before they have a chance). The tomatoes had a hard time this year, since it has been a cool spring and summer.

My corn is blooming and I see little ears of corn forming. I built myself little mini raised beds for my herbs, and I have chives, dill, cilantro (now only the seeds heads), parsley, basil, peppermint, chocolate peppermint, and leeks (teeny only so far).

My salad bed is huge now, lol, since I let all my lettuce go to seed, in the hopes, that next year it will reseed all by itself. I'm all for lazy gardening. But that didn't mean we didn't get to harvest our lettuce, we did. We have been picking off lettuce leaves for months on them.

I just planted more seeds in mid August for a fall garden, but only the kale and lettuce in one bed made it. The other one I think is getting eaten by snails.

I've been fighting critters all year, it's incredible, how many creatures want to eat my plants!

Ok, well, it's late here, so I need to close this, but I'd love to hear about all your gardens. Share techniques, seed sources, etc.

Re: Gardening!

Still hoping to find other garden lovers!

Harvesting lots of squash. Started canning a few. New to this, but I got myself a great book on old preservation techniques, and I"m trying my hand at natural fermentation. ^_^

Re: Gardening!

I love gardening! I'm starting to plan out my garden getting ideas of what to plant and where. Last year we have a nice crop of cucumbers and tomatoes.
If anyone needs sunflower seeds I have a bunch from last summer I'd be happy to share.

Happy gardening!

Re: Gardening!

Ooh, I could use sunflower seeds! I moved my garden spot two years ago, and my trusty crop of sunflowers didn't make it in the dry summer without water.

I don't have any new sunflowers started yet.

That's really a good idea about sharing seeds. What I have for sure right now are calendula seeds, plenty growing here!

Re: Gardening!

Yes, I love it. I go to a local garden in the summer. I can get all my veggies, and then some. 100% organic. So delicious. I love it.
