Unauthorized Payment Request I contacted Etsy Support and wrote to social media accounts. Support chat is also included!! Nobody is contacting me. They read and don't respond!!! I am writing to request a refund of the $578.78 unauthorized charge on my card. On [12.26.2023] I received an SMS from Etsy stating that I needed to enter the code sent to my mobile phone to complete my seller registration. It did not allow charging!! and I didn't enter any code into my Etsy account!! I can send a copy of the text message I received from Etsy and a copy of my credit card statement showing the unauthorized charge. I know Etsy has a policy of refunding unauthorized payments. I want you to investigate the problem and refund the money as soon as possible. I was also very disappointed with my experience with Etsy. I literally got scammed.
Hello,
These messages you're referring to did not come from Etsy. Please flag them as spam and do not click any suspicious links. We've already taken action on the accounts attempting to impersonate admin.
Otherwise, check out this article to learn how to protect your Etsy account: https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/Protect-Your-Account-From-Scammers/td-p/143158945
This thread is now closed. Thank you all, as always, for your prompt and actionable advice.
Sounds more like someone scammed you, not Etsy. You need to contact your CC and dispute it there. Etsy does not need $$ to set up your account or you to click on anything to complete seller registration. You gave Etsy all that when you signed up.
Call your bank.
Run your virus software.
You were scammed by someone who was not Etsy.
Etsy would not send this code to you or withdraw hundreds of dollars to activate a new seller account.
@TheLandofColorShop Sadly, you've been scammed. You were not talking to Etsy, you were talking to a thief and criminal who impersonated Etsy in order to steal your information and rip you off.
I'm going to post three threads that all sellers should read:
https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/New-From-Etsy-section-in-Messages/m-p/143722497#M1899

Contact your bank or credit card company and inform them of the scam, they likely have some fraud protection in the works. Good luck.
no sir , No, you can contact this person right now !! This person can be talked to at any time on Etsy Support Chat!!!!!!! It is obvious that he works here. Please someone intervene in the situation. Even you read ! and respond, but not a single official from Etsy gets back to me. I explain the situation both here and on social media accounts, no one answers me.
@TheLandofColorShop Read the three threads I posted.
Two are from Etsy discussing how to recognize scams. Etsy does not communicate via text messages to verify accounts.
I know it is painful to believe you've been tricked and scammed, but it is true. Denying it won't change that, but what denying it will do is leave you open for the theft to continue to scam you.
What Etsy will tell you: You've been scammed, and the person contacting you does not work for Etsy.
Sorry.
This person can be talked to at any time on Etsy Support Chat
You are getting the same person over and over again on etsy chat? that doesn't happen
Are you sure you are using etsy support chat, as there are people impersonating support chat
you don't have star seller, so it will rarely be available to you, the only way to get to it, is through your dashboard
support - contact us, and keep clicking through until you get to "I still need help"
If you are getting to it any other way, it's not etsy.
"you can contact this person right now !! This person can be talked to at any time on Etsy Support Chat!!!!!!! It is obvious that he works here."
I have used etsy support chat dozens of times and have never had the same person on any of those chats ever. Its always a different person. If you are getting the same person each time then its highly doubtful its actually an etsy support person. Its far more likely its the scammer sitting there waiting to scam you further as everyone here is trying to tell you.
You unfortunately fell for the scam that's been rampant for months. Etsy tries to shut these accounts down quickly, sadly the scammers work even faster to set up new accounts.
Etsy will not refund, I recommend contacting your bank/credit card and hopefully they can help you.
For more info, search the forum for "scam".
You have fallen for a "phishing" scam where people pretend to be people they are not, to con you to give them your details, then steal your money.
This is nothing to do with etsy.
someone pretended to be etsy, and you fell for it
You have to notify your bank, cancel your credit card, and claim on the protection you have with your card.
thank you for ur replies but , you can contact this person right now. This person can be talked to at any time on Etsy Support Chat!!!!!!!! It is obvious that he works here ! Please someone intervene in the situation. Even you read ! and respond, but not a single official from Etsy !! gets back to me!!!! I explain the situation both here and on social media accounts, no one answers me. :(((
As others have said, you need to contact your bank immediately.
@TheLandofColorShop - For the moment, forget about contacting Etsy.
Contact your Bank and Credit Card Company Immediately.
Explain to them that you have been the victim of a scam.
They may be able to help you in getting your money back. Much depends on where you are located.
Etsy does not communicate with us via chat.
they will put a note in your shop manager. They may send you an email to your registered email, but that's rare.
if you are getting the same person over and over, you may have malware or some trojan on your computer, too.
Etsy does not normally respond in these forums.
can you help the OP?
The scammers have a place where you go to click saying it’s “Chat” it’s not Etsy chat it’s the scammer. Please listen to the people here.
" This person can be talked to at any time on Etsy Support Chat!!"
This right here is a huge clue that it is NOT Etsy but a scammer. You cannot talk to an Etsy rep immediately ever. Even if you have the chat capability (which I do not think you even have since you are a new seller and NOT a star seller) you would not get the same chat person every time. This is NOT Etsy but a scammer who is PRETENDING to be Etsy. Etsy does not ask for money to set up an account nor do they withdraw money without a reason like a refund etc. You have been SCAMMED. Contact your bank/credit card for help before they take more money.
@HerrMoostache I hope you are working today. Perhaps you could help this seller.
@TheLandofColorShop You have been scammed.
thank you for ur replies but , you can contact this person right now. This person can be talked to at any time """"on Etsy Support Chat!!!!!!!!"""""
It is obvious that he works here ! Please someone intervene in the situation. Even you read ! and respond, but not a single official from Etsy !! gets back to me!!!! I explain the situation both here and on social media accounts, no one answers me. :((( i ve been called to bank and blocked my card but my money has been already gone !!! what can i do ???
How are you accessing "etsy support chat" because it actually sounds like you are talking to a scam and not actual etsy support.
@TheLandofColorShop Did you call your credit card company?
Anyone can slap an Orange Etsy logo onto an avatar and call themselves "Etsy Support Chat".
Look at all the different sellers here, all telling you that you've been scammed by someone impersonating Etsy. I've been selling here since 2009, which you can see by checking my shop. All the sellers responding are long-term, professional sellers. Why would you assume we are all wrong about this?
They set up a FAKE etsy support chat. It was not etsy. Etsy did not steal your money.
It's very easy for someone to create a profile and message you through chat with an Etsy icon. That it likely what it happening. If you have a lot of experienced sellers tell you that you have been scammed please accept that. Arguing about it and expecting Etsy to fix it will only allow them access to your account to take even more. You need to call your credit card company and lock your account immediately before this con artist robs you blind.
@TheLandofColorShop I understand that this is very upsetting to you, but the longer you wait to contact your bank and credit card company, the worse it will get. It is a scam, and everyone here is trying to help you understand that. It was NOT from etsy!
