Ok Calgary peeps, it looks like the Triwood Hall in NW Calgary is available for booking on Friday, Feb 19th from 6 to 9 pm for a get together and craft destash. Rental rates have gone up to $150 for the night (we can arrive a bit early).

Given the rate increase, if I can get 14 people signed up to attend and each commit to paying me $10 each for the hall rental, I'll book it. If we get a larger group, each person will pay less - I'm not making money on this, just don't want left covering the balance for the hall rental out of my pocket.

Could one of the team leaders please start another thread so we can track who can make it? I'll watch the thread, count the folks going and confirm in that thread when I book the hall.

For those of you new to this idea, about once a year we get together in an informal way, with people bringing potluck snacks or beverages if they feel like it and us socializing as a group. We have a 'destash' area where you bring good stuff you don't want (it started as an exchange of craft supplies but has morphed into everything from a new shower curtain that doesn't fit the décor to gently used kids clothes and just about everything else). Bring what you can, take what you would like, all for free.

At the end of the evening, volunteers take any leftover items to charities or somewhere that will use them (ACAD, Goodwill, etc.). The goal is a fun, relaxed evening with us filled with treats and good ideas, craft storage spots emptied and filled back up and the remaining items off to a good home.

The spot is in JT's, a room in the Triwood Community Centre in NW Calgary, just off of Northmount Drive and 19th Street. If you would like to come but may need a ride, please pop a note in the other thread and other team mates may be able to provide transportation.

If you take direct checkout & don't opt to keep standalone Paypal, integrated Paypal will be mandatory for you as of February 15th:
https://www.etsy.com/teams/7716/announcements/discuss/17317289/

A lot of Americans have already gotten screwed by this, so choose carefully. If you opt for integrated, you will never be able to have another electronic payment option beyond direct checkout. You will not be able to turn off direct checkout & just take Paypal, ever again. So Etsy will be able to raise fees, cut customer service etc. and you will have no other options.

If you don't already take direct checkout, don't worry - they are not forcing you to take DC. (not yet, anyway). There is no word on whether new shops opening will be forced to take DC only, as is now true in the US. If you are thinking of opening a new shop and want standalone Paypal, do it now.

Happy Sunday all- hope that the week shapes up well for everyone.
I am trying to get my work week all sorted so that I can spend some time crafting Tuesday, I want to do some crafting- haven't had time since early December and I am starved for something creative!!

While I think on it, has there been any discussion on a Calgary meet up/ destash this year? I haven't been able to get through last weeks' threads, so not sure if I have missed it.

I have not heard anything about a destash, Christine, but I'd certainly be interested. I enjoy those get-togethers.

I finally got to spend some time with the foldio light box today. I have some draft listings ready to release, and I actually got to make a new piece of jewelry. It felt good to get buried in viking knit for awhile today.

Hi everyone!

I would be interested in a Calgary meet up too!

I'm heading to New Orleans on Wednesday and am starting to get so excited! I'm hoping to get some really great shots!

I'm really tempted to not put my shops in vacation mode this time around. Last time I did that my stats plummeted for at least a month after I got back. Has anyone else experimented with just increasing your processing times while away and maybe adding a vacation alert in the shop banner?

I was the one that organized the destash/potluck snacks/get together last year but haven't done anything yet.

If there is enough interest and the same Triwood Community Centre location is ok, I can check available Friday nights.

Cost would be about $6 per person for room rental. I would also need volunteers to take extra destash to charities at the end of the night.

I'll watch this thread to see if there is enough interest.

Morning all! I'm behind so excuse all my random comments :)

Donna - how are you liking your foldio? It seriously made taking photos way less of a chore for me! Only bummer is the app makes the photos ridiculously huge in filesize and eats up all the space on my phone! So I need to transfer them off asap after a photo shoot.

Also I am TOTALLY up for a destash. If anyone is interested, I have some fixtures from the 1947 house we're renovating (chandelier light, some additional light fixtures, electric fireplace etc). Otherwise I might just drop this stuff off at Reclaimed Canada.

Q for leaders/captains of the team - is anyone planning on applying to this? http://bit.ly/1USzaEs

Was thinking of applying but would love to have a buddy with me! Not sure what the dates would be , think it was Feb or March?

Morning all! I'm still here, still alive, just took a break through Christmas shows, finals, work, and holidays. Glad to be back at it now though.

I started a new project over the holidays (as you do) and it's another 365/366 project on my website: http://365yegproject.com/ Making daily art! Yay! Also, making videos! Which is also yay, but also scary, haha.

Hope everyone is doing well and I'll try stop in more frequently now.

Speaking of summit application - it's application forms for those wanting to put on an Etsy Made In Canada Market. The summit is in April this year and it is fun. If you're planning on putting on a Made in ____ market this year with Etsy, definitely apply.

Marissa and I will be putting on the Edmonton market again this year and, let me tell you, we're planning on it being huge! For those in Edmonton or around abouts, here is the Etsy Edmonton forum: https://www.facebook.com/groups/etsyedmonton/ As soon as we get confirmation on the space, we'll be putting up the application forms. We already have the form up for Artwalk.

Kalen, so far the foldio is good. I'm liking the light quality and loving the convenience of being able to set it pretty much everywhere. I'm still experimenting with backgrounds. My only frustration is one body form I use for necklaces won't fit in the foldio. So I still need to figure that out. I'm not going to put a lot of energy into that until I move, tho' as I'll want to set something up and leave it.

I upload my photos into dropbox the same day I take them then typically delete them from my phone. Then when I've edited the photos and created the listings I'll move them to my external hard drive and delete them off dropbox. It helps me stay a little more organized and less overwhelmed that way.

Good Monday morning! Kalen, as I read your post I thought, oh, gotta connect Kalen and Jasmin and Marrisa, and I see a few messages later Jasmin is already stepped up. Please do connect with each other and then give me a shout. Feel free to use my email if it's easier than convo's or the threads. (kellie.marchak@gmail.com).

Also, everyone please feel free to contact me using my email if you want. We're looking for extra hands to help with the team. The more hands, the lighter the load per hand.

Jasmin - looks like Etsy removed that requirement for attending the summit this year. :)

From the link:

"This year, we're excited to open up applications to any existing or new Team Captains/Leaders who have demonstrated exemplary community leadership, skills, and Etsy values in their communities. Therefore, you are not required to commit to running a Made in Canada to apply for this year's event, as we are excited to work with Teams who possess a passion for working and engaging their communities in new creative ways. Happy Chinook!

Oh Kalen, my breath caught when I saw you were looking to destash vintage light fixtures! I've been looking on Kijiji this month just for that. I would love to see what you have.

Apologies too, I wanted to make treasuries this weekend and got completely lost in a stash of fabric planning a quilt. I know many will understand (!) but I must be more aware of my obligations.
Always up for a destash/meet up.

Donna, glad to hear you like your Foldio. I was excited when I got mine last year but was disappointed in the photo quality. I found I could capture better lighting naturally and set it aside. Maybe I should try again and be more patient. Of course, anyone looking at my shop may think I could use more work on my photos!

Hello! It's nice to see a local team here on Etsy.

I am pretty new...really trying to see if I can make a go of it here. I've listed a lot of new items in the last 3 weeks and starting to get a few sales!

Quick question for those of you who do some craft fairs --do you have insurance and, if so, through which company (and for how much if you don't mind me asking)? Is 1 million in liability enough for a craft fair? I really have no clue so any advice/help would be most appreciated.

I got insurance once, to do the Highland games. Most of the markets I do are small though, so didn't need to have more. The company I went through is PAL Insurance. They have a section for folks like us, and options for one event or multiple (well- that's what it was the last time I applied, which was coming on 3 years ago now)

Darcy, I would be happy for Triwood again- it is comfortable and cozy. I was looking at options around my area last night, and alot of them are pretty pricey (my hall is still in the neighborhood of a few hundred for an evening), My hall is also not as comfortable- big empty room with tile and wood floor with a great echo and bright lights.

In terms of donations, I can take all leftover yarn and fabrics (and odds and ends of stuff that I think might be suitable) to ACAD- I have done that for the last 2 destashes, and everything disappears from the hall pretty quickly. It is amazing what they can come up with for discarded (but still usable) stuff.

I love a good destash, mostly for the visits.

Lindy & I have started planning for Made in Canada this year in Calgary. Let us know if any of you want to help out! We won't be opening applications until closer to Spring / Early Summer, but we're already working hard to iron out some of last year's kinks and make it a better show this year.

If anyone has questions about Summit, too, let us know! I've applied to go and so has Lindy, but I know Etsy has room for 60 leaders & captains from across the country, so there's lots of opportunity for some fresh faces! Especially now that you can go to Summit without having to put on a Made in Canada in your city. :)

Thanks Jillian! I think I'm going to apply but I'm not entirely sure if I'll be able to make it. Depending when in April it is I might be in the US on vacation (I'm gone April 11 - 25th).

A bit bummed, I used part of an Etsy Gift card I got for Christmas on a shop critique, and the result was "you should sell your patterns instead of making items" and "your shipping is too high". SIIIIIIIIIIIIGH.

Good morning ! I am new to this team and I hope that I get to know the team a little better. I have been on etsy for years and love it! I probably buy more than I should, there are so many unique items. I used to sell handmade antique , hairpins , and antique brooches, and my own bracelets. I now have my newest shop, still making braclets and malas as well. Its a tough go, and it is much more time consuming than I thought. I love making the jewelry though, it is my past time, I am also a teacher. Anyway , glad to be here and will try to post often. Have a great day! Edie
