Re: Why You Joined The Group? (Acceptance of an Addiction)

How embarrassing, do I really fess up? Lol

Well to start the story, when Etsy decided to let manufacturers in officially, I got really upset. I felt like I was kicked in the guts, and kicked really hard, by my beloved Etsy.... where I had tirelessly promoted the site to anyone who would listen, my friends discovered a new world of shopping, and so did their friends and so it went.....but it was getting harder to find something beautiful and handmade...you all know the story.
Anyway, I thought that my time with Etsy was coming to a quick end. There was no way that I would be able to compete with all the manufacturers here now, well they were always here, but now more were joining the party....the end was definitely in sight for me...or so I thought.
But.....something wonderful started to happen. People did not stop convoing me. People started seeking me out. They were choosing handmade..not manufactured by a sweat shop...they were choosing ME, to create for their little ones something truly beautiful, made with love, by my own hands.
My faith in Etsy returned, and we are friends again :)
I am so grateful.

So every day when I wake up (except Sundays, because I have a day off now), I put the internet on, and make a cup of coffee and check my Etsy.....yeah life is good! Then I check out my stats...smile, even if one person has looked. I check out where my views are coming from on the map...isn't that a great feature and sometimes when I get the views for a certain country in particular that i won't mention, I say to myself...oh right!
WhenI get chosen for treasury...excitement plus...and get onto the front page which had happened, but very rare...I almost have a heart attack from the excitement.
Convo's are so wonderful. Hearts to me are " pretty "

The chi ching sound...well, I run to the ipad. Wow...someone has bought something that I have made...what a wonderful feeling, and yet humbling at the same time...I can't explain it...just know that because of Etsy it has happened, and I am truly thankful.

So thank you so much for the invite. This group sounds like it is going to be a whole lot of fun. Happy New Year to you all...all the way from hot Australia xxx

Re: Why You Joined The Group? (Acceptance of an Addiction)

Very well written. I never thought Etsy would turn into what it has for me. Now, with that being said, I have only been open since Aug. 31, but I didn't start listing until a week or so after. Out of my10 sales that I do have so far, 8 are from the month of December. It really gives me motivation to really give it some effort. I am really promoting my shop as much as possible, taking new photos, improving my descriptions and such. I will say that when I started Etsy, I NEVER thought it would be so much work, but turn out to be fun work at the same time. I really tip my hat to those that have really made it out there in the Etsy world, with hundreds and thousands of sales. It really takes hard work, dedication and patience and gives me that much more motivation!

I check my stats, convos, double check listings...and I try to crochet or sew every free moment to add new product! It's bad but I love it!

Re: Why You Joined The Group? (Acceptance of an Addiction)

As a mother with grown sons, I have heard many times that at least this is an addiction they can deal with---- or really an obsession--- but it could be worse. So my addiction is accepted as part of who I am. The rest of my obsession would be my full time job------Director of nursing. Suppose my husband would appreciate being somewhere in that mix?????

Re: Why You Joined The Group? (Acceptance of an Addiction)

stats and forums!!

I had no idea I would love the Etsy community as much as I do! I just opened in late November, and even reading up on SEO, participating in the forums; I LOVE it all. And it always amazes me how supportive the community is.

I agree Allison, the forums are really addicting. I love interacting with people from all over the world, the states and different passions. I have never been so excited to bond with people like I have here. The forums are the best place to build relationships with people. :-)

Re: Why You Joined The Group? (Acceptance of an Addiction)

When I joined Etsy, I was hoping for a way to continue my grandmothers magnets. She loved making them and selling them out of her home. Well I became obsessed with checking my stats and orders. I remember how excited I got when my first magnet sold and I shipped it off to WI. Now I am obsessed with expanding my shop to include other items as well, because I love to make things for the home. Although between work and checking Etsy two three times a day I find it hard to get the sewing done. lol

Re: Why You Joined The Group? (Acceptance of an Addiction)

I joined because I am happy talking to people here. It is not that my life makes me unhappy. I do have tons of things to do. However, I am amazed by how many nice and friendly people write here!! People in my island are pretty arrogant and kind of always mad. Well, that is a generalization...

Simply put, I love talking to people here, it puts me in a good mood (as any addiction should...), so I joined the group.
