SEO Critique!!

Hi,
So I am brand new to this whole process. I just need help. Getting traffic (I was, but put shop on hold trying to get SEO right, but think I made it worse.
I’m on instagram and Facebook, just can’t afford any ads. My instagram blew up as soon as I put it up.

So I guess I’m asking for a shop critique. Be brutal if you have to be, I was the one who made the sensitive art students in art school cry, so I can take what I dishout.

Help mostly with Keywords, I DO NOT understand anything about those. I am really asking, everything will go in my handy dandy Etsy notebook

Thanks and cheers

Oh, keep in mind there is an actual reason I am anonymous.

Re: SEO Critique!!

Hi Anonymous,

I took a look at a couple items in your shop...honestly I don't know much about photography so I can't say I would be the best help.

But I will try my best to give you the advice that has worked for me. As for keywords, if you're struggling and not seeing results (views), I like to go and scope out the competition. That's to research other people that are selling similar items.

I looked at your keywords, and some of them are too specific.

In this listing
https://www.etsy.com/listing/602965735/hidden-windows?ref=shop_home_active_2

You have "bent chicken wire" "barred windows" as one of your top keywords...
The way I would think about finding keywords is... how many people would know EXACTLY what kind of photographs they're looking for and actually type in "bent chicken wire photograph" in the search bar.

I'm guessing not many, so I try to be more broad like "industrial photograph" or "wall art."

I actually went ahead a looked up a few best sellers in your niche and this might be a good place to start.

**You can find the keywords that they use at the very bottom of the page where it says "Related to this item" (this actually means the keywords they've used)

I do like how your listings have a story to go with each photograph, it creates emotion.

Hope this helps.

xoxo

Re: SEO Critique!!

If you're still struggling and able to dish out $20 a month there's always Marmalead. They help you research keywords and what's trending. I know you mentioned that you don't really want to spend money but I think they might have a trial period. You should at least check out the trial period, it'll give you a good feel for the market.

Re: SEO Critique!!

I’m not working...because reasons. So I have exactly 45.87 in my PayPal. So I have absolutely $0 to spend on extra things. I ordered a digital book for $8 and literally sat for an hour contemplating getting it. So $20 is way out of my budget. But I will keep the link in my notes for later. Thank you
Cheers

Re: SEO Critique!!

This is a great help. I have trouble thinking like a customer.
As for the descriptions, I write a story or the history, because each photo has a story or history, especially in Charleston. It’s funny how much I have learned just writing them.
