Follow people who have a lot of followers.  Follow people in the group.  Instead of forever renewing old listings, I make a copy of the one expiring, list the new copy and delete the old one.  New listings get you into the "feed".  Like peoples art.  You have to create a following if you are to succeed on etsy.
