5 Tips for Overcoming Negativity with Enthusiasm (compiled and adapted from Dale Carnegie Course on a similar topic)
Negative attitudes are a lot like the common cold, it can start with just one associate, but soon everyone is feeling the effects; and, this is certainly never good for genuine teamwork.
Yet, unlike the common cold, there's a real proactive cure.
Enthusiasm and positive attitudes can spread just as quickly-improving relationships and increasing proactive teamwork!
Here are 5 tips for overcoming associate negativity with enthusiasm:
1. Turn Barriers into Opportunities
Look at negative behaviors and attitudes as opportunities for improvement. Now instead of dreading these issues, you can maintain your own positive attitude by controlling your response. Often negativity starts with negative self-talk—the looped messages that play over and over in our heads to darken our outlook and erode our confidence.
2. Replace Negative Self-Talk with Positive Self-Talk
Negative thoughts lead to self-doubt and failure. Look for negative messages in your own thinking or in the thinking and actions of others. Try turning the negatives into positives. Positive thinking will result in positive actions and positive results.
Success Formula
Positive Thinking + Positive Actions = Positive Results!
3. Build Relationships Based on Trust
Use positive attitudes and enthusiasm to build relationships. Negative attitudes make it difficult to trust others; and without trust you can’t influence positive change. Taking action to build trust will increase comfort levels and strengthen relationships. Thus, everyone will feel better and will do a whole lot better here on our team and Etsy-land too.
4. Win People to Your Way of Thinking
The only way to win an argument is to avoid it. When handled correctly, disagreements and debates are opportunities for positive change. When disagreements arise, show respect for the opinions of others, never tell someone they are wrong, and try to see things from the other point of view.

5. Disagree Agreeably
The key question that we all face is, "How do we disagree agreeably and still have our ideas heard?"
Keep the lines of communication open by trying to see things from a different perspective; plus, doing this: To walk in the other person's shoes, one needs to take off their shoes first and walk to where the other person is at. This works best by making the best effort possible, even getting out of one's comfort zone.
Take the time to really think about how the other person thinks and why they feel the way they do. Always, keep in mind that we live and participate here on Etsy in a world wide group of people of all different diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and traditions too.

Additionally one habit that can damage these 7 habits of highly effective people is the habit of "fault-finding" - once it is acquired it is one of the hardest habits of all to break. Why? Fault-finders are the most successful people in the world because they always find what they are looking for 100% of the time - they look for faults and they always find lots of faults.
One of the reasons I personally like to keep my distance from "fault-finders" is that a have a whole big huge bunch of faults and "fault-finders" just love to pick on me. What is also always true is that "bad association ruins useful habits" and just by associating with fault finders your can catch this diseased habit for life. It most definitely can become fatal to owning a positive attitude!
