. . . now that the dust is settling it would be good to have a discussion about "Promoted Listings on Etsy" . . .

I will start this discussion beginning with the above official information.

"Millions of people search for items on Etsy each day. Enrolling in Promoted Listings is a great way to get your products in front of interested shoppers more frequently."

Many are finding using "Promoted Listings" as great way to promote their shop listings and do so specifically.

With multiple opportunities to appear within search, your items have a much higher chance of being discovered!

Your Promoted Listings appear in two reserved locations — above and within search results — increasing their chances of being discovered.

Set maximum bids for each listing or let us set the bids to maximize your listings’ performance. Choose which listings to promote or we can automatically promote items as you add them to your shop.

Perhaps this has caused some "panic" when first looking at the budget one can set. Minimum budget is $1.00 per day or $30.00 per month and maximum budget is $10.00 per day or $300.00 per month. Sounds super expensive?

One seller's experience shows this:

The sellers sets a daily budget of $5.00 per day (which would be up to $150.00 per month) and gets good exposure and most of the time this seller pays a few pennies over $1.00 per day.

This is not an "exact science" and it most certainly can vary. However, even if this seller set her budget at $10.00 per day (or $300.00 per month) Likely, but not for sure, the total cost would be just over $2.00 per day (or $60.00 per month).

"No matter how many times we show your Promoted Listings, you only pay when shoppers click."

This is a most essential part of the cost equation. Only pay based upon the number of shopper clicks onto your listings.

"See your impressions and clicks go up in real time, and get insights on how to improve your Promoted Listings."

One will need to try this to experience this?

Best if I just let you read the above on your own. It appears complex and I do not want to make it any more complicated.

Here is a few points to try to understand:

Low Bid: You are promoting this listing, but the bid is too low and may not be showing up much in search results.

Your Promoted Listings Stats

Visit Your Shop > Promote > Promoted Listings.

Use the graph at the top of the Promoted Listings page to track:

-- how many impressions (views in Search) and clicks you’ve received from your Promoted Listings

-- how much you’ve spent

-- the revenue you’ve generated.

If you click View All Promoted Listings Revenue, you will be able to see which of your sales have been attributed to your Promoted Listings.

This is not my recommendation; I am just discussing what I might do.

Set my budget for $1.00 and set specific listings/shop section to promote.

(If my cost results are based on the above example, then my $1.00 daily budget will likely cost me about $0.20 per day or $6.00 per month.)

Maybe choosing to promote say 6 of my most popular listings at one time (based on the principle of repetition for emphasis) I might be able to generate some interest in my shop.

Also, by including in the description a link to 1 or more of my shop sections then hopefully these who click on my links will see many more of my products.

I think the above is a helpful tip.

Your thoughts please?

Thank you,

Mike

Yes Mike, I agree. I haven't had a whole lot of luck with it since Christmas, but it's also not costing me much because the overall volume on the website appears to be done so not as many clicks.

It does seem to work better when you select only a few popular items to promote and then definitely insert a link to a related shop section in the listing. This gets you the most exposure and chance of sale for the money spent.
