DAY 9

DAY 9: Revise tags and titles.

I know this isn't the funnest of days, but hang in there guys! Once these 30 days are over, I promise you won't regret it!

When writing tags, try to describe the item in a phrase. Example:

"Purple sweater"

Next, use synonyms for both "purple" and "sweater".

Lilac Sweater
Purple Cardigan

Then start again. Try and think of as many ways that you can describe the item. The phrase should be in ONE tag. Don't use two tags "Purple" and "Sweater". Put it together in one tag "Purple Sweater"

After you have used ALL 13 tags, and they are not one word tags, then take 4-7 of those tags and put them as your title.

"Purple Sweater, Lilac Sweater, Purple Cardigan, Light Purple Winter Wear, Warm Sweater..................."

Post updated listings here if you want them reviewed.

If your number of listings is overwhelming, just do as many as you can and continue this after the 30 days.

Re: DAY 9

6 of my paltry 22 listings are for similar items. While at my day job today, I came up with 2 brilliant unused tags—as a direct result of earlier Cleanse posts! Psyched to update them today.

I'm scraping the barrel with so few listings.

Kudos, Amanda. Each cleanse post leads me to elevate my shop. Today's revelation came not from "listings" challenges, but from Day 7's "target market" challenge.

Re: DAY 9

The more I work on it, the more new ideas I seem to get... I find myself constantly going back to previously revised ones just to change up some of my tags and titles :-)

Re: DAY 9

This cleanse is kicking my butt, I have been so busy I didn’t realize the atrocious state my shop was in. The titles and tags are done, matching and spiffed up........... for the moment LOL

Re: DAY 9

It's a vicious cycle, really, Pamela. You've been so busy that the shop falls behind. But now that you're cleaning up, it'll get even busier (as you noted last time 3 of your 10 updated listings immediately sold ;-)

And therein lies the purpose! Yay!

Re: DAY 9

I think this one is working well for me:

I am having a hard time with my custom portrait listings. Specifically, I have the tags like "custom pet portrait" "custom dog portrait" - but I am not showing up in search!

Re: DAY 9

rachel.....

looks like you have 9ish listings relevant for custom pet portraits.
there are 60ish pages of relevant items, so i would expect you to be in first 7 pages. You are on page 7.

she has 237
https://www.etsy.com/shop/bethanysalisbury?ref=l2-shopheader-name

she is on every page.

why not use those keywords on every pet listing. You already say you do customs in the listings of non custom ones, so stick it in the title.

it is a numbers game.

Re: DAY 9

I've missed a few days so I have to do some catching up - but just did twelve listings for today. The more I did, the easier it got.

Re: DAY 9

Completed key word revisions for nine listings today.

Still working on desk top and work space clean up. It has morphed to include other spaces, since I worked in every room. Actually, I am having fun tossing stufff and shifting/organizing.

Looking ahead, I have started re-shooting products, with mixed results and adding listings - up to 57 listings.

This process is so worth the effort!

Re: DAY 9

Oh, and working on my banner - using bannerfans.com, Having challenges in formatting the picture because the file size is so large - working on figuring out how to re-size the pixels to 760x100. Any tips?

Re: DAY 9

Working on listings and I'm using some of the helpful suggestions given to me the other day from the Commitment Team for fairy doors.

Shop cleanup still in progress, but it's feeling good, really good to sort and dump into the burn pile...

Re: DAY 9

Kimberly, I use google Picasa to create banners. I take a plain white (or whatever color you like) document and then resize it to 7x1. It's not exact but close enough. Then I add text. You can download some cool free fonts at dafont.com.

I can't believe how many little things I've needed to correct.

Glad to be getting this done before the holiday rush!

Re: DAY 9

I've tweaked the tags and titles on my two lowest viewed items.

I understand the low views on this one since it's seasonal:
www.etsy.com/listing/164569421/

And this one may have a limited market due to the subject matter:
www.etsy.com/listing/178158798/

If anyone has a moment, could you please take a look at these two and let me know if I'm on the right track?

Re: DAY 9

Due to my desire to distribute my time in a productive manner between cleaning up my Etsy shop, learning a new graphic design program, marketing my company, keeping up with orders, working at my day job, and spending time with my family and friends, I am changing my promise for updating my listings for this cleanse. I've come to the conclusion that updating 30-some listings, 10 days this month is simply not able to happen, given my dedication to other areas of my business and personal life. I do, however, promise to update 3 listings, 8 days per month (24 listings per month) until they are done. Some days I may be able to do more, and sometimes I have one listing that was copied several times to create other listings, so I'll tackle those at the same time.

Today I spent an hour analyzing my listings to determine what I may want to discontinue, re-photograph, re-color, and/or re-design. This process did weed out some of my listings, too!

I'll keep chugging along. :)
