Tell us about your first sale for a chance to be featured
Hi, all! We’re feeling nostalgic this week...
Setting up your shop can take some time. Getting your first sale can sometimes take even longer–but it’s always worth the wait! Do you remember your first Etsy sale?
Maybe you were selling a completely different product at the time? Was it your first time earning a profit for your work? That’s always so validating! Perhaps you had not yet figured out your shipping strategy, and were crossing your fingers that packages got delivered safe and sound. Or maybe you heard the cha-ching and did your ultimate happy dance, or called your mum!
Tell us about your first Etsy sale and why it was memorable. We’re excited to review your responses, and folks from the Editorial Team may reach out to some of you for more info for an upcoming video we’re working on (don’t worry–we’ll help you get set up for recording success!).

·3 years agoMy Fist sale on Etsy was very exciting
I had just finished designing a wooden toy for kids and listed it on Etsy. While I was preparing the other items I got a sale I didn't see it for 2 days but that first sale was a game changer. It showed me that I could design and sell more wooden toys and furniture for kids and their families. From that moment on, I knew I was in the business of spreading joy

·3 years agoMy first "organic" sale on Etsy (I don't count the sales from my friends) happened about two weeks after I opened my shop. I remember how rewarding it felt to have created a useful product that someone else (a total stranger at that!) was interested in. I focus on printable planners, more specifically, medical planners to help patients organize their health information. I created these with the intention of helping improve patient outcomes and decrease the stress of managing chronic illnesses. The fact that I have had some people purchase these from me inspires me to continue making more! I plan to continue to celebrate each and every milestone along the way, because I know all the effort I have put in to this, and I can't wait to keep learning and growing from this experience.

·3 years agoHello,
We made our first sale on April 4, 2022. A few months after we opened our store, our hopes were slowly dwindling. We thought we would not be able to make sales, and suddenly we received a small but very happy order of 15 units from Germany. Cha-ching sound must be one of the happiest sounds
When we received our first order, we actually had no information about shipping and payment issues. As we made sales, we developed our company, our product models and ourselves even more. As 4 sisters, we never stop researching since the day we started etsy, we try to follow the developments in countries, customs laws, package laws, new trends. We are very happy to be here.

·3 years agoCustomer service sucks. You can't talk to a representative and I can no longer chat with rep. Listings are being deactivated daily. When I correct them they are not being re-instated nor has anyone responded back to me. This is unacceptable. Good luck with your stores or go elsewhere.

·3 years agoGreetings, everyone!
As we read through the prompt, we couldn't help but feel a wave of nostalgia wash over us. We understand the excitement that comes with getting your first Etsy sale. It's a significant milestone that marks the beginning of your journey as an online seller.
Our first Etsy sale was an incredible moment for us. We remember feeling both nervous and excited at the same time. We were selling handmade throw pillows, and our first sale was a set of two pillows. We were over the moon when we heard the "cha-ching" notification on our phone. We immediately celebrated with a happy dance, and we called our family and friends to share the news.
It was an affirmation that our hard work and dedication to crafting our products and creating a strong brand presence had paid off. We were thrilled to see that someone appreciated our work enough to make a purchase.
We are excited to hear about your first Etsy sale and the memorable experience that came with it. We appreciate the opportunity to share our story and look forward to seeing the upcoming video from the Editorial Team. Thank you!
Regards

·3 years agoMy first sale came just last week. I lost my best friend to domestic violence two years ago. She loved earrings. The wilder the better. In January, I started learning how to make some, and just gave them away to people. After her trial, I decided to put myself out there and try to sell them to raise money for domestic violence organizations. When I got my first sale, I was excited and surprised. I didn’t know if this could be successful and I really wanted it to be. I want to help give even just one person the chance that my friend didn’t get.

I have never done that. I went to the beginning. The first sale of my Herkimer Diamond. My vision of my shop having a soft and magical feeling that some how over the years I have lost.
thank you
thank you for restoring my vision

·3 years agoI opened my shop in 2022, not really familiar with etsy at that time. So when I first heard the cha-ching sound on my phone, I was like, what was that? I looked at my phone & saw a notification about a new order! I was so happy and excited! That first order came about a week after I opened my shop. She ordered 2 items and also gave me a great review.

·3 years agoI had my first sale a few das ago, exactly after 50 long days since the opening of my shop. It was exciting!
Curiously the second and the third one followed in a few hours, and one of these customers gave me my first (and only, for the moment) 5 stars!
I was losing motivation but now I'm more confident and patient, results will come.

Çünkü Kargo ücreti ve diğer masrafları hesaplamayı bilmiyordum. Şu an 3 yıl olan Etsy geçmişim çok güzel bir şekilde ilerliyor. Etsy satıcısı olmayı çok seviyorum. :)))

·3 years agoI jumped when my phone went "Cha Ching" the first time, in Dec. 2022. It was for a rotating moon necklace...I couldn't believe someone liked my work enough to pay for it! Since then, I have sold 16 other pieces of jewelry, have had a custom jewelry order and one commissioned painting. Every day I learn something new on Etsy that is helping me in so many areas. My photos, packaging, marketing and general understanding of this crazy adventure have improved and will keep evolving. But that "Cha Ching" is exhilarating whether it's the first time or the 16th! I was hesitant to open a shop because I thought my work wasn't good enough. Etsy has allowed me the platform to learn that it is.

·3 years agoMy first sale came after I opened shop in August 2020. I sold essential oil blends. I was ecstatic. However, in hindsight, I think about how I packaged my item, sent it off without an invoice, no thank you card, no top quality checkmarks, nothing. That customer never came back to my shop. I've come along way since then. I make sure the majority of my essential oils are certified organic, wildcrafted or organically, sustainably grown, my packaging is prettier with bamboo lids and caps, and I give instructions, invoice and a sweet thank you card as default items to include in the flat rate box. I think about sending my first customer a gift for being my very first client. Has anyone ever did that for their first customer? Thanks.

·3 years agoMy first sale was an essential oil perfume balm of lemongrass. I started my aromatherapy business when my daughter was diagnosed with autism so my schedule would be flexible for the many therapies that she would require. I filled my first order while she was receiving her early intervention services at home in the next room. We turned the small room off the kitchen into her therapy room and it is now our soapmaking studio! She is going to be 16 years old this year and is doing great; my aromatherapy business is now my full time job ♡

·3 years agoIt took me a month to get my first sale. I had a week-end in the mountains and had a look at my shop when I saw a sale. I couldn't believe it, and thought that someone in family bought it (I asked my husband at least 20 times...). But no, the lady was from the other part of the country. She bought me potholders that I still sell. What an amazing souvenir !

·3 years agoHi FidosFlowers,
I've been open about a month now. When I set up my shop one Thursday evening, I only had one listing. I thought that I'd add some more over the weekend. I'd also heard not to expect much for the first month or so until I'd got at least 20 listings, and had done some social media marketing, so I had plenty of time to ease into things.
I was just dropping off to sleep an hour or so later, when I heard a "cha-ching" sound. Someone had bought my one and only listing of a repurposed Observer Pocket Book. I think it was number 1 in the series called 'Birds'. I didn't sell anything else for a fortnight!

·3 years agoFor my first sale I had a very nice lady from the US to ship to.She was patient and understanding,I felt very grateful as I had no prior experience shipping anything.I shipped for free from Malaysia to the US,with Dhl Express-and I still do.I paid from my own pocket before learning I had to include in the pricing of the product. It was a beautiful experience, although at the time I was rather stressed for everything to go well,as with all newbies.I have learned so much since then, and I look back with much nostalgia and gratitude.

·4 years agoI had been collecting vintage Mele and Buxton jewelry boxes and decided to start an Etsy shop to sell them.
My first sale was such a surprise. I sold a small, vintage Mele jewelry box. It was an olive green color with a gold leaf design and a velvet interior.
The buyer had an Etsy store as well. She used this jewelry box to make a ceremonial box. It included sage, beautiful stones and crystals, healing herbs, feathers and the like.
I was so impressed with her creativity.

·4 years agoMy first sale happened two days ago right after I opened my shop. It was the biggest surprise and of the happiest moments I'll surely remember for a long time. The best part was that it was just so unexpected and absolutely unthinkable to me, Id never imagine I'd get my first sale so soon especially since I didn't share my link with any of my friends. I screamed and did a happy dance and called a few people. A simple cha-ching sound can bring so much joy haha. I packed it as nicely as I could and took a trip to the post office. Was caught by the biggest storm, when I got there my clothes were entirely soaked. All worth it though.

·4 years agoIt literally took me a 3 months to make my first sale but the feeling was incredible. At the time I was thinking that it won't happen ever even tho I think there are items that have more competitors than sustainable knitwear. I didn't gave up and I was trying to keep building my shop with consistency. In one year I still don't have big traffic or stable sales, but what makes me happy is that all of my 10 sales were smooth and successful. All the clients were happy about their sweaters, cardigans and tops.

·4 years agoHi all.
I opened my shop in memory of my wee cat who died a few years ago. I posted my first items which were dream catchers, mobiles and silk ribbon hanging ornaments. I waited for someone to come along, them on the first of April last year,I received a message on my Etsy asking if my shop could be highlighted in The Scotsman newspaper as they were highlighting unusual Scottish shops on Etsy. I excitedly told my son and husband the news, then just after telling them,I heard the 'ker-ching' sound meaning that someone had made a purchase from my shop.i burst into tears of happiness....on that one day,I made my first sale AND was one of the artists published in one of the biggest papers in Scotland. At that moment,I knew I was going to be able to raise extra money for my favourite cause- a rescue which saves cats in Cairo AND my little cat Poppy was to be forever immortalised in my shop.Such a happy, happy day. Thankyou Etsy for making owning a shop so easy and fun

·4 years agoMy first sale was what has turned out to be my most popular item. ‘In My Life” machine embroidered lyric on a hand made pillow. The sale was made within the first week of opening my Etsy Store. I remember exactly where I was, and the time I heard the Ching Ching sound come through on my phone. I was so excited. I’m honored to know my designs are enjoyed in various homes across our country. Customers have left reviews that has had me in tears explaining the special meaning my items mean to them, and/or the receiver they bought the item for. I feel so blessed.

·4 years agoThree years after the epidemic, the factory encountered difficulties, and batches of employees left. Watching them leave is like a child leaving by our side. A few years ago, a friend suggested that we open an Etsy store and try to put some handmade things on it for sale. Two months have passed, and I have gradually learned from Xiaobai to study the pictures above and study them day and night. I once thought about giving up, but I persevered when I thought of the look of my colleague who had left. Suddenly, at 2:00 in the middle of the night, my husband said that an order was coming. We hugged and cried, jumping for joy. All disappeared, our family is very happy, finally saved, thank you ETSY for showing us such a good platform

·4 years agoMy first sale was a pair of yoga socks which I knew would sell when I had finished them, it was just my attitude for selling, and knowing that all sorts of knitwear was needed (real and acrylic wool for example) even in what are supposed to be hot countries like Sri Lanka. I knew at the time 11 years ago that my knitting technique was good and quite fast, although realised that I had forgot my pricing techniques from work in finance and charity retail. I also knew at the time I wouldn't need much help for the basics of retail, these combined points were the secret to my first online sale.

·4 years agoThere are a few things that run in my family's bloodline, like the extra bone in our feet and the silent diabetes. Along with the less desirable traits, people in my family can either sing/play music on any instrument by ear, write poetry and/or prose, or sell snowsuits to Floridians. We enjoy trading and entertaining and most of us are epic bullcrapers.
I've been selling online through eBay and Amazon for more than 15yrs. I've always been crafty and like my forefathers, enjoy trading. I don't remember my first ever sale but I remember many special sales where I shared pieces of myself with my buyers and we connected, for just a minute in time and that was enough to leave a smile in my memory. Those are the sales that stand out for me.
Etsy is totally unlike eBay and Amazon in that many buyers actually reach out and welcome a momentary bond. In a couple of months selling on esty I've met so many wonderful people from New Jersey to Alamo, CA. I get to be a part of birthdays and weddings, I get to share in milestones and celebrations. That's a very special thing, it's what really makes trading worthwhile. My first sale on esty was for some tees, nothing special, but my first memorable sale on etsy was a special request of custom made toy accessories. I actually created a new mold just make some super unique accessories that fit with the buyer's request. She was so excited that it made me excited to create and she was so genuinely grateful, and sweet that it made the trade special to me. Since that sale there have been many like that, those are the sales that are truly valuable, where we're trading pieces of our lives, our stories, ourselves instead of just money and goods.

·4 years agoI opened my shop up 1 month after having a newborn! Being in the house all day with her I had to find a hobby. I love to dress her up with headbands and bows. I thought to myself this can’t be that difficult to make, because my mother used to sew. So I started teaching myself how to make baby accessories, bows, headbands, turbans, etc. I bought some fabric didn’t have a clue what I was doing or how to even sew. I didn’t have a sewing machine so I sewed everything by hand. I caught on pretty quickly. Over the past few months I’ve been expanding my shop. I try to add 2 new accessories a week. I made my first sell last week! Someone in Germany bought my headband bow and paid 36$ to get it to her. I thought to myself how am I going to send this package I don’t speak her language and I can’t read the address! Luckily the post office associate helped.. as much as he could and google! I have the shop app so I was able to see when it was in transit and being delivered. Meanwhile I was hoping I sent to the correct address! I was hoping the presentation was nice enough. A few days later I get a notification in the middle of the night from the Etsy app and it was my first 5 star rating for my FIRST sell! I can’t tell you how gratifying that was. So much excitement let’s just say I didn’t get much sleep that night! I’m so excited to see where my business is headed and how many sales I will get this month!

·4 years agoHi! I am the owner of WhereTheLilyGrowsCo! I launched my business in February 2021, my fist sale took about 3 weeks to get but it was so worth it! When I started my business I sent a link to my Etsy to all my family and friends, so if they wanted to check it out, they could. My one friend that I’ve know for years said she thought they were really cool and the next thing I know, I heard a “chi-ching” I jumped out of my seat wondering what it was. I checked my phone only to see that she had purchased my “strive for the impossible” sticker and I was so happy. I thanked her and immediately started packing the order, I even threw in some freebies because she was my first order. I shipped the order and we were both very happy!

·4 years agoMy first sale was from my grown son. He had just had a baby so I stocked my shop with a lot of cute baby bodysuits designed for new babies and toddler things (he has a two year old too). I set up a buy one get one type of coupon. And he gets on and orders coffee cups! I had the cups listed with free shipping, and put the weight in the shipping area, so he paid $16 for 2 coffee cups, with the coupon and Etsy gave upgraded shipping becuase it weighed over 16 oz and I shipped them for $14. So I learned a very valuable lesson on sale one. No free shipping on cups. They got their mugs and loved them, left a ok review, 5 stars but no pics and not very articulate, and I later sent my grandsons some bodysuits and tshirts I wanted them to have. Everybody is Happy

·4 years agoMy first sale made me feel so supported. I had my shop open for a few months then and was feeling really down and discouraged because I didn't get any sales, I was barely getting any views or visits too. I've read the Seller Handbook, I thought I've done my SEO right, made sure I had enough of good photos.. But still crickets. Then I posted on a local Etsy support group on Facebook and after receiving many wonderful comments I also got the most amazing notification I've ever seen. New order! A member of the group purchased from my shop to encourage me to continue with my little business. I was really over the moon that day. I indeed did a little dance too.

·4 years agoI opened my shop in 2016 after completing a silver clay course. I made some very basic designs but decided that I would have more success selling personalised items. It was exciting to open the shop and have all that enthusiasm and motivation but I didn't get my first sale until the following year. I think I'd almost given up on the idea of selling on Etsy but out of the blue came my first order. It was a Saturday morning and I thought about it all weekend. Then Monday morning I made my first order and despatched it the following day. It felt so amazing to be actually paid for my craft.
Order dribbled through and before long I'd also switched to stamping metal which was more popular then the silver clay items. I'd get busy around special occasions but I was still only making enough money to cover costs as a hobby business.
Fast forward four years and I now have a thriving successful Etsy Shop but not in metal stamping or silver clay. Along the line somewhere I incorporated ash jewellery into my designs and that's where I'd found my niche. It's been a full time successful business ever since. Etsy was my chosen platform to launch my business and it works so well I'm sticking with it.

·4 years agoThe first time I made a sale was so memorable! I wanted to keep growing and I closed my shop for a while so I could work on my style in art making. When I reopened a month ago, and made my first big sale-- where people purchased large copies of my prints I could not believe that someone wanted something of mine in their home and we never met before! It was so humbling and such a great feeling knowing I can make an impact on someone where my work will have a place in their space.

·4 years agoWell, I just set up shop last week and I’ve only had one sale and it was to a friend! but it was fun nonetheless. I think I’ll be more excited about my second one though, because it means I’ll have gotten slightly more visible.

·4 years agoHello,
My first sale happened after five and a half months of being opened. Two days prior to me receiving the sale i had spent hours researching etsy success stories and reading the Etsy sellers manual. I had made numerous of changes based off my findings from my research.
It was 4:02 am on a Tuesday. Two days prior i had just downloaded the Etsy ap. I was awaken by a cha ching sound from across the room. I layed there staring at the ceiling for close to a minute thinking to myself, did i just make a sale?
Knocking over my bed side lamp, i eagerly approached my phone, and discovered the best words to any seller. You have a new order!
I was filled with so much joy and motivation. I did not go back to sleep that night, i was just too excited! I packaged up my order with a hand written note to my customer thanking and sharing with her that she was my very first customer.
Almost two weeks later she became my very first five star review! With a humble joyful heart that is when i knew i was well on my way to my goal as a Etsy seller!
