I’m Kristin and I work on Etsy’s Community team. My team is focused on sharing updates and educational resources here in the Forums and via our seller programming.

With the holiday season underway, we’re excited to share this monthly guide to help you prepare your shop for success. Each month we’re highlighting info on key shopping dates, upcoming seller events, and buyer trends based on Etsy search data and industry forecasting.

Here are a few highlights from the article:

Get discovered

Our Early Holiday Sales shopping experience is running now through November 17. This longer sales period helps give buyers more time to shop, and the opportunity to buy meaningful items at special prices, ahead of the Cyber Week rush. We’ll kick off Cyber on November 18 with a sales event exclusive to shoppers in the Etsy app. Then, we’ll open up the sales event beyond the app from the 19 through 30, where we’ll be featuring on-sale items on Etsy and in our marketing channels including email and social.

If you decide to participate in Etsy’s holiday sales events, put your listings on sale for at least 20% off from now through November 17 to reach the most shoppers. Then schedule your Cyber Sale for November 18-30. Schedule a sale.

Bring holiday buyers back with a thank you coupon. Encourage your customers to come back and make a second purchase from your shop by sending them a small discount after their order. Create your coupon.

Tools and resources

Review 2022 Holiday Shipping Deadlines to learn about carrier cutoff dates leading up to Christmas.
Set up an abandoned cart targeted offer to entice potential customers with a discount when they leave an item from your shop in their cart.
Make sure you've added estimated delivery date details so holiday buyers can shop knowing when their items will arrive.

How are these sales helpful to those of us who do not have Etsy Picks and Bestsellers? When I browse the items shown on the first several pages of the sale, that's all that I see. I do put my shop on sale often and it does seem to help but I would not give more than 10% off just to participate in a sale that does not promote my items. I do send 20% off coupons so my customers can get an additional 10% off when my shop is on sale 10% off. Anyway, so many of us are seeing a huge dip in sales during November. It's been pretty bad.

Definitely a very successful event and thanks to the whole etsy team for that.

it's only the 18th of the month. I reached the day and the harvest of last month. And now I've increased the discount rate by another 5% by the end of the month. This is great support and effectiveness.

I did as instructed. The sale starts 12.01 on my local timezone. How about then countries before my local timezone i.e Australia? Will they be excluded from the start? When exactly (UTC time?) the app promotion starts?

I need help understanding the exact rules to be sure my shop participates in this event fully.

1) Please clarify the sale highlighted in red above. What is the required percentage discount to be included in the Etsy marketing for that sale? Is it also 20% discount? Or is any discount (say 10%) good enough to be included in the "extra" promotional advertising?

2) Also, this sale was originally stated to require a "shop wide sale", is this true? And if so, is it OK to run 2 separate sales that cover the entire shop but have different discounts per item?

Please note I HAVE carefully read all the posted rules, but there are different versions depending on where you read and there are a few critical details missing.

I understand that my sale will still be generally seen by people who happen to stop by my listing or shop. But there appears to be more than that with Etsy advertising beyond the normal sale.... IF ... the sellers follow all the requirements. The rules are a bit murky to get it exactly right. Please make it crystal clear if at all possible. Thanks.

This is all good information but not sure if it matters unless traffic picks up. Etsy has been extremely slow for about two to three weeks now and all of my profits are being eaten by ads that ARE NOT bringing buyers! Etsy should consider ad credits for your sellers once again!

For the cyber sale i think you have to include all; go to website shop manager, hit marketing, then hit sales and coupons and follow directions...hope your sales do well

I like the 20% sale suggestion.

Some more to do could be taking the time to assess your production and fulfilment processes.

Then, ensuring that all your delivery, exchanges, and complete order details, before the Christmas period, are clearly communicated in your store’s policies.
