I’m Isabella and I work on Etsy’s Community Education team. My team is focused on sharing educational resources here in the Forums and via our seller programming.

This holiday season, we’re sharing a monthly guide to help you prepare your shop for success. Each month we’ll be highlighting information on key shopping dates, upcoming seller events, and buyer trends based on Etsy search data and industry forecasting.

Here are a few highlights from this month’s checklist:

Review 2022 Holiday Shipping Deadlines to learn about carrier cutoff dates leading up to Christmas.
Make sure you've added estimated delivery date details so holiday buyers can shop knowing when their items will arrive.

On reflection, I have had my Christmas presents early, my mum didn't know what to give. It is a form of giving so a form of income. with that in mind I think that small accessories will sell, and I will have hopefully 1 to 2 more sales this year. I have to get promoting. I surpassed last years sales, even tho Nov. wasn't as good. Dec. started crazy, so much so that with local sales I had to close to catch up. I won't reach the number of sales I had last year in Dec., but I am happy with what I did achieve, in total.

Dear Nathalane

I looked at your store and its products. I want to give you an idea about keywords.

1- I think the keywords you use are insufficient. Etsy gives us the right to use 13 keywords. These keywords are very important to us so that our products are more visible to people. You should try to use all 13 keywords. However, these keywords should not be one word. For example, let's say you're selling a concrete tealight candle holder.

Wrong:

- Tealight

- Candles

- Holder

TRUE:

- Concrete Tealight Candle Holder

What did we gain here?

By using these three words in the same keyword, we gained the right to use different words for our keywords. By doing this, we get stronger keywords. So people can find us more easily.

So what's the logic here?

For example, let's say that the keywords you use in your product include the word "Handmade".

If one of its keywords says just handmade, the Algorithm can show your product to others who aren't actually interested in your products. Thus, you cannot reach the audience you need to reach. In addition, if you are advertising on Etsy, you cannot sell because your keywords are missing or incorrect even though the ad is clicked. Because even if the person who clicks on the ad will never buy your product, they will actually click on your product just to look at it. If we had used the keyword ''Handmade Candle Holder'', we could have reached the customer base we needed to reach more accurately. For this reason, it is very important that keywords are not single words.

I recommend learning more about keywords. I tried to talk about general logic here only. I hope I could help.

Note: I gave examples only to explain the logic. For example, a keyword can have a maximum of 20 letters, but I used a word with more than 20 letters.

I don't know where else to put this. I'm so very sad. My shop was suspended for not having a TAX ID. But I got one (which cost $250 ish) and I put it in. It was rejected by Etsy saying it was wrong. I DOUBLE CHECKED and had a friend also check. It was not wrong. Tried again; rejected. Tried again. It's still not wrong. So I gave up trying to do it right by putting in my LLC number. Because when I posted about it to the forums, several people said registering an LLC number was messed up and broken on Etsy's end. Even customer Service people couldn't help. So I finally gave up and just registered as a sole proprietorship. Which was the advice I got from those other shop owners on the forums. I hate doing it wrong just to get a result I need.

But now I have to apply to get my store running again since it was suspended. It could take up to 3 weeks for Etsy to approve my application to get my store re-established. I'm a new seller; started about 3 weeks ago. I was doing well. 100% 5 star reviews; shipped within 24 hours or less; answered all messages on time; keeping store nice and full; using and paying for advertising successfully; and promoting my business. Worked my butt off. Now not only is 75% of my money being "held back" by Etsy, but I can't get my store back for possibly weeks. I was counting on this money. Having to borrow money to cover the extra expenses of getting my LLC (which I thought I needed to run my business) as well as other stuff like shipping supplies. I am super depressed and anxious. haven't slept in 2 days. This feels like a punishment. And I did everything right. It really hurts. What a nightmare. I am starting to wish I had never started this Etsy shop. I'm looking for some support. Some help. But customer service was less than helpful. Those were just form emails and didn't solve the issue. Nor do I know what to do next to get my store back. This is a nightmare. I want to be happy with Etsy and feel good again. I really do.

I had one goal for December, one sale. Yesterday I achieved that goal. I am beyond excited for the new year. I took the last few months to refresh my mind about Etsy selling and how to make my niche of a store more appealing. I can't wait to learn more. Hope more videos are in the future from Etsy, thats my goal for Etsy next year is to figure out my video style for showcasing items and shop. I have a huge inventory to put online but I want to make sure this time everything is as best it can be. What was my side hobby and passion since late 90s has now become my only way to fund things for my Autistic son who will be 21 this next year and he has been my shipping master since 18. I would love for him to keep learning processes. He has a special eye for some really unique finds every time we source. I recently was reconnected with something I had as a teenager thanks to him. Hello First of all congratulations. You made a very quick introduction to Etsy. I hope more to come.

I want to help you by writing my own ideas in articles. (I checked your store.)

1- I think you need to improve your product titles. Let me explain this with this question. Why is it bad that the names are the same even though the products are the same? Because of the algorithm. If many of the product titles are the same, you become your own competitor in the algorithm. Thus, while you can show 2 or more products to 1 person at the same time on the home page, you can only show one. Because the algorithm will probably throw the other one into the background because of the title similarity.

2- Titles should not be short. I will try to explain by giving an example. For example, you sell dog bandanas. Let's say the fabric of this bandana is cotton and patterned. Also suppose you can customize it. The title could be:

'' Customizable Dog Bandana - Cotton Dog Bandana - Patterned Dog Bandana''

So, what advantages did I gain by making the title like this, compared to your title?

* If anyone is looking for a patterned bandana instead of a plain bandana, I usually go before you. Because unlike you, I stated this in my product title.

* Let's say someone called by specifying the fabric type of the bandana. There's a good chance I'll be out again, probably. I'll probably run into someone who wants patterned fabric before you do.

Since I don't have much time, I can only give so many examples. I think you can stand out more if you do this. You must specify the product features in the product title.

3 One of the most important things is keywords.

- There are many details, but I would like to say it briefly as logic.
Let me give a simple example.

keyword:

Cande Holder vs Votive Candle Holder

Candle holder:

- Search: 20,000

- Product Used: 200,000

Votive Candle Holder:

- Search: 10,000

- Product Used: 60.000

(The numbers I gave have nothing to do with reality. I used all of them just to give an example.)

The ratio between the number of clicks on the searched words and the number of products in which this word is used is the most critical thing in my eyes.

What I want to say here is that if you use the search term Votive Candle Holder, you will rank higher. In addition, since the keyword "Candle Holder" is already included in this keyword, people who search by typing Candle Holder will be able to see your products.

Never forget to do your keyword research well.

Let's get to the end of my post. These are all my personal opinions. I hope I have helped.
Never stop researching. You can do a very good job by blending the opinions of different people and closing the gaps.

I want to know why my product does so poorly on your site...you seem to think that etsy is wonderful? For me etsy is a crap site...when do I get some sales? I pay my bills with the sales i get from e-bay...I wanted the same sales on etsy but apparently, etsy likes to punish their sellers...What is up? I have a problem with etsy...where are MY BUYERS!

Hi,

I have only been a seasonal Etsy shop owner for the past 8 years up to now because I cater only to Christmas in my Shop. But I am now wondering with the Star Seller application requirements if I should consider being open all year long so as to already be qualified by the time the Christmas Season Holiday Shopping opportunities arrive since it takes a good month or more to qualify on all aspects of the Star Seller Status. I would love to make 5 sales this December but time is running out. 🥲

I opened my shop in October and have made 4 sales. I'm so frustrated because I'm researching SEO and everything I can about selling but I'm still not getting any visits to my store. Your artwork looks great, but they will use a lot of ink to print them, because of the black backgrounds. And on home printers, large areas of black often look uneven.

If you sold the same things, ready printed, I bet they would be very popular.

My goal for December is to make a sale a day for the whole month. Hoping for 31 sales. I've been open since the beginning of the year and I just hit 40 sales today. It's been a learning process, but I hope that all my hard work this year pays off during 2023! Hi everyone,

I opened my shop at the end of October and I have only made 1 sale. Retail management is my brick and mortar regular job and I have been in the business for 35 years.

I am obviously doing something wrong with my online store but I cannot figure out what the problem is.

I advertise and run good sales and getting nowhere. I add a couple of products every few days but that is not helping.

Can someone look at my shop and give me advice please?

My goal is to make 2 sales! Thank you!

just took a look... you have only 17 items, and some are make up, that is a tough sell, since there is so much out there. The other items are very taste specific, and a couple of them are outrageously priced. Although they may be that valuable, it is hard to draw that kind of customer at that price on Etsy. Maybe do a little more research and see what items like the ones you have are selling for. Also, at the bottom of each listing there is a date of when it was posted, that is a good indication of how fast an item like that will move.

Good luck. Don't give up, just keep looking for your niche.
