Etsy Insights: What's trending for back to school

I’m Dayna, Etsy’s Trend Expert. Back-to-school is a fresh-start moment for families, students, and educators, and shoppers are looking for items that feel practical, personal, and meaningful.

Based on 2025 data, “school” search traffic peaked the week of August 28. Here are a few areas to watch as you plan inventory and refresh relevant listings.

Personalized gifts and accessories

Personalized backpacks and school accessories are among growing searches this season, with school backpack searches up +79% and personalized tees up 33% year over year.* Shoppers aren't just looking for practical items, they want products that feel made for their kid. If you offer personalization, now is a good time to make sure that's front and center in your listings. And if you haven't tried our new custom options fields yet, they make it easier to capture exactly what buyers need upfront, so orders move faster with less back-and-forth.

Paper goods and keepsakes

First-day-of-school traditions are becoming an even bigger part of the season. Searches for first-day signs are up +7% year over year,* and newer formats like flags, banners, and pennant flags are gaining momentum fast. Families are looking for ways to mark the special moment with something personal.

Teacher gifts

Shoppers are looking for thoughtful, personalized gifts for the start of the school year. Searches for personalized teacher gifts are up 17% year over year,* with interest in items like classroom supplies, personalized stationery, and other useful gifts.

Dorm decor

College shoppers are looking for small-space decor, organization, wall art, and desk accessories that feel personal and useful. Searches for desk decor are up +135% year over year.* You can highlight dimensions, materials, and setup ideas to help shoppers envision your products in their dorms.

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all doing well.

I am the owner of The Pearl Threads on Etsy. It has been 5 months since I opened my shop, but unfortunately, I still have zero sales.

Because I am based in India, it is often challenging for me to attend live webinars due to time zone differences. I have been learning as much as I can through YouTube and making various improvements to my shop on my own, but I feel I have reached a point where I truly need personalized guidance from an experienced mentor or fellow community member.

I would be incredibly grateful if a mentor or experienced seller could visit my shop and review it. Specifically, I would love feedback on:

Are my product titles and tags optimized correctly?
Are my descriptions engaging and complete?
Do my product mockups and visual presentations look professional?
What key mistakes am I currently making, and how can I fix them to reach my first 100 sales?
