Etsy Insights: Tips for Selling Outdoor and Garden Goods
Hi, Etsy sellers! My name is Lucile and I work on the UK Seller Growth Community team. My team works on growing and educating the community of sellers on Etsy.
Shoppers in the UK are heading outdoors to celebrate with family and friends—and they’re turning to Etsy to find outdoor decor, furniture, entertaining items, and more to make their space extra special. For today’s Etsy Insights post, I wanted to highlight this opportunity for sellers, along with our best practices for listing these items and keeping up with customer demand.
What are UK buyers searching for?
Trending Outdoor and Garden products on Etsy include: outdoor dining and entertaining, pub garden, herb garden, pots & planter, handcrafted animal homes (ex: bird feeder), garden decoration, garden lights and lanterns, family activities, mirrors, chimineas, hammocks, and outdoor candles. Check out Etsy’s Garden and Outdoor Decor Editor’s Picks page for more examples.
Popular related search terms on Etsy include: garden furniture, spring wreath, garden decor, outdoor dine, plant pot, pampas grass, vase, garden bar, outdoor cushion, pit, dine table, outdoor planter, mud kitchen, ceramic oil bottle, coaster, garden ornaments, sign.
Tips for optimizing your listings to reach shoppers
This checklist will help you make the most of increased searches for these products:
- Review important item details that help shoppers find your items when searching, including categories, titles, and tags. Make sure you’re using the same keywords a shopper would use when searching for garden and outdoor items. Remember to use descriptive, multi-word tags that illustrate the unique qualities of your item while tying into popular search terms (for example, tags like “wooden picnic table”, “oak dining table”, or “classic outdoor table.”)
- Consider adding a lifestyle shot to help people imagine using your products in context—like a wooden table photographed outside in the garden, or a candle holder twinkling outside at dusk.
- In addition to ready-to-ship items, consider diversifying your listings with customization options, DIY kits, and item sets or bundles.
- Make sure your shipping profiles include carrier info, mail class, and processing times so we can let shoppers know when their order is expected to arrive.
- Write a complete listing description that answers shoppers’ questions: Does the product arrive assembled? Is it durable or/or waterproof? How should buyers care for it? What materials is it made from? How will it be shipped?
- Shoppers may also want to check out your policies before purchasing anything, so make sure you have these filled out, including details about whether you’ll accept returns or exchanges, and how long those windows are open.
- Consider sending a coupon to shoppers who have added your item to their basket but haven’t purchased, or shoppers who recently favorited an item from your shop.

·5 years agoThanks for this...I make durable unisex aprons from vintage denim and have just started selling here. I've added 'Gardener' as a tag now (I can't believe I hadn't before since gardening is the main thing I wear my apron for!) to highlight they're great for outdoors and a good gardening gift...fingers crossed for sales
