Etsy Insights: Setting Your 2026 Shop Goals With Confidence
Hi everyone!
I’m Cat Hutchings, and I’ve been selling on Etsy for about 15 years. I run two shops: WonderLight Jewelry and MoonLight Supplies. One thing I didn’t use intentionally early on — but now rely on — is goal setting. That’s why I’m so excited to share the framework I’ve developed over the years to help you set meaningful, attainable goals for the year ahead.
In this post you’ll find a quick overview to help you get started, and be sure to watch my recent workshop on the Etsy Success YouTube channel for the full breakdown, along with examples from my own small business journey. Let’s get started!
1. Reflect before planning.
Before setting new goals, it’s important to look back. Not to judge yourself, just to gather information! Wins and challenges both matter. To get started, write down three wins from the past year and one main blocker that slowed your growth.
I recommend spending time in your Etsy Stats to look for patterns in listings, traffic, and performance to help inform this process. Remember, these learnings are not just about revenue! If you’re new to using Etsy Stats, you can find your personalized insights page by visiting Shop Manager > Stats in the sidebar.
2. Choose one area to focus on.
Instead of trying to fix everything, pick one growth lever to prioritize informed by last year’s learnings. The growth levers are visibility, conversion, product innovation, customer experience, marketing, or operations.
3. Set one clear, realistic goal.
Vague goals like “grow my shop” are hard to act on. SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) make progress clearer.
4. Break it into quarters.
Instead of tackling a full year at once, break your goal into quarterly focus points. One main focus per quarter is enough. This also helps you plan around seasonality and busy periods.
5. Plan for roadblocks.
Common roadblocks include time, capacity, skill gaps, and mindset. Identifying one likely obstacle in advance — and deciding how you’ll respond — makes it much easier to stay on track.
If you want the full walkthrough, examples, and guided exercises, you can watch the complete workshop here.
What’s your SMART goal for the year ahead? Let us know below!

·4 months agoI have been selling on Etsy's Platform for about 9 years and this is my first time to make a comment. Before selling on Etsy, I owned a company of which I started for 28 years and while traveling with that job in the evening, when I had spare time, I would collect things that I liked (I like just about anything made out of glass) thinking one day that I would probably sell some of my collections.
My daughter was one of the very first people to set up her shop to sell using Etsy's Platform. She makes Jewelry out of glass buttons, which she has collected from all over the world. She wanted to stay home and raise her children, plus home school them, so this worked very well with her schedule. After she saw things start to accumulate in my house, she said to me, whey don't you sell some of your collections on Etsy. After I sold my company, I was ready to try something new. Getting started took some time, as it does with any business, but I have met some of the nicest people from all over the U.S. Selling on Etsy is ideal for younger people, expecially with small children and also Senior Citizens, who have time on their hands. Better to be busy than to spend your day doing nothing but worrying about something, which will never happen.
If someone who will be 80 years old in about 2 months can sell on Etsy and have fun while selling, anyone can be successful selling on Etsy. Wishing the best for all of you, who are selling on Etsy. Caroline and Lilly Bee Glassware (named after my two granddaughters), is the name of my shop.

·5 months agoMy shop is about 5 months old. My goal is to increase traffic. I have worked hard on my SEO and promote my shop on social media but my traffic has stayed between 20-60 views per day since I opened. I have 105 sales in those 5 months but no increase in traffic. Does anyone have any advice? https://lilleyshandmade.etsy.com

Alles Gute!

·5 months agoHi there, thank you for this post. I have been on Etsy for 7 years now. Etsy has been my main source of income. Since last month February my shop views/visits and orders have gone down by over 50+ % . I’m panicking. I tried adjusting some listing with the new short titles and am putting more work into my listings. But what’s happening? I’ve also noticed a lot of new shops copying my listings for very low prices. Everything seems unbeatable and AI generated.

BoundToSpiral
·5 months agoI have set a goal to dedicate a few hours each week to researching LLMs and their impact on the ecommerce landscape for both retailers and customers. I launched my products on November 27, 2025. Initially, I unintentionally created a challenge by listing 1-3 items daily, focusing on wall art, mugs, notebooks, and t-shirts. This rapid horizontal expansion led to internal cannibalization, resulting in over 200 listings with minimal conversion. My Q2 goal is to concentrate on refining current listing’s tiles, updating mockups, and enhancing descriptions to align with the algorithm search model, aiming to boost visibility and conversion. While still listing a new product within my current SKU offering with intention once a week.

Following your steps, my focus area for 2026 is Customer Experience and Conversion. My SMART goal is to reach 15 positive reviews by the end of Q3 by refining my packaging and sending polite follow-up messages to buyers. Breaking it down into quarters really makes the process feel much less overwhelming. Thanks for the inspiration, looking forward to a great year!

STLyra3D
·6 months agoHi everyone,
I opened my shop STLyra3D recently, and I’m currently at 29 listings and 31 sales. This framework encouraged me to pause and define a clearer long-term direction instead of just adding more products.
1. Reflection
In my first phase, I experimented with different themes. I noticed that my knit-texture decor sets performed more consistently than other concepts. My main takeaway is that focus creates momentum. When a niche starts resonating, depth matters more than variety.
2. Focus Area
For 2026, my primary growth lever will be product innovation within a defined niche. I plan to intentionally expand my knit-inspired printable decor collection rather than diversifying too quickly.
3. My SMART Goal
By the end of 2026, I aim to:
Reach 150 total sales
Grow my knit-themed collection to 40 cohesive designs
Increase average order value through carefully structured bundles
4. Quarterly Plan
Q1: Strengthen visual consistency and refine top-performing listings.
Q2: Expand the knit collection strategically based on data insights.
Q3: Introduce seasonal knit variations while staying within the niche.
Q4: Evaluate bestsellers and optimize pricing and bundles accordingly.
5. Anticipated Roadblock
My biggest challenge will likely be resisting the urge to chase new trends too quickly. To stay on track, I plan to review Etsy Stats quarterly and make decisions based on performance data rather than short-term excitement.
My goal for 2026 is steady, sustainable growth built on clarity, consistency, and thoughtful product development.

Since I am a new seller and don't have past year data to reflect on yet, I am focusing on your Step 3 and 4. My SMART goal for this quarter is to reach 50 fully SEO-optimized listings to build my shop authority, and to achieve my first 5 organic sales to trigger the Etsy algorithm. Setting a clear, measurable goal rather than just saying 'get more sales' really helps me stay focused on production and SEO right now. Thanks for the inspiration!

·6 months agoAs Vuloria Studio, I really resonated with the “reflect before planning” part — it’s easy to focus only on sales, but looking at stats, favorites, and listing performance has helped me understand what truly works in my shop.
This year my main focus lever is visibility, especially through consistent listings and stronger SEO for my wall art collections. Breaking goals into quarters also feels much more realistic for managing a growing digital shop.
Your approach makes goal setting feel structured but still achievable, which is incredibly valuable for long-term Etsy growth.
Really appreciate you sharing your experience after 15 years on the platform — very inspiring for newer and scaling shops like mine!

·6 months ago · EditedThank you for this, it is really helpful. I'm on Day 1 of my Etsy shop; I decided to put my watercolour studies on here as an entry point for new collectors of original art. I'm pleased to say I have planned in advance as you suggest. I am not a full-time shop keeper, I am a full-time artist, so instead of stocking up a shop upfront, and potentially giving myself more administration than I wish to deal with, I plan to do a monthly drop of 8 works at a time until I get the hang of this. Eight works at a time allows me time to get them properly prepared and photographed, and to keep up with the inventory.
I'm inspired by your 15-year tenure, congratulations and best wishes!

·6 months agoThanks for posting this! I had a look at your site and your work looks really good, you deserve to succeed. Although I am a newcomer too, I have an MBA and know a little about marketing - maybe consider changing the wording on your description? Currently it is 'Printable'. Perhaps give more idea of what benefit your buyers can expect, for example, include something like one of these phrases, and pad out your description a bit. Starting with the word 'Colouring' could work well.
Examples:
Simple Lines Studio №1
Clean lines for cluttered minds.
Coloring pages with attitude—for grown-ups and little rebels alike.
Big lines. Bold laughs. Brilliant breaks.
Be a little braver, you've done all the hard work, now you deserve to succeed.
Best wishes

·6 months ago · EditedThank you for this post. I've been running my Etsy store for six months now and have managed 56 sales so far.
My immediate goal is to break that psychological barrier of 60 and push on toward my first 100.
When I see other Etsy stores of similar age already selling in the hundreds, I'll admit it gets discouraging — and I find myself asking where I went wrong.
I feel like I've done the things that are supposed to matter. I've stayed focused on my niche, promoted consistently, and put real effort into every listing — yet something still seems to be missing.
Most of my sales are wall art pieces, which I genuinely love creating. Visual art is my passion, and designing those canvas prints is a way for me to express myself.
My niche is intentional: I focus primarily on the Filipino community, drawing from my own heritage as a Filipino American who takes pride in his culture.
In terms of tools and promotion, I use AI consistently — to develop concepts, create mockups, and generate SEO-optimized titles, descriptions, and tags in Printify. I also use it to create thumbnail images for TikTok and YouTube.
Nearly every new listing is accompanied by a social media push across Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, with both images and videos. I also run Etsy Ads, though I keep the budget modest at $5 a day. And yet, something still feels missing.
Here's my store, in case anyone has feedback: 👉 Tatak Pinoy Tees on Etsy
Here's hoping 2026 brings a breakthrough. As a retiree, I'm genuinely enjoying this creative chapter of my life — and I'm not ready to give up just yet.

·6 months agoHi Cat,
Thank you for sharing such a clear and practical framework. As a long-time Etsy seller in the metal wall art niche, this really resonated with me — especially the reminder to focus on one growth lever instead of trying to improve everything at once.
For 2026, my SMART goal is to increase my conversion rate on large-scale premium pieces (150–200 cm metal wall art) by refining product presentation, lifestyle mockups, and customer education around installation.
In Q1, I’m focusing on improving visual trust and clarity.
In Q2, product innovation and structural upgrades.
In Q3, increasing average order value with curated collections.
And in Q4, strengthening brand positioning beyond Etsy.
Appreciate the push to plan intentionally instead of just reacting to sales trends.
Wishing everyone a focused and high-conversion 2026! 🚀
