Hi all,

I’m Katherine, and I work on Etsy’s Seller Marketing team, where I strive to educate sellers about different tools and resources to help them grow their businesses. As we kick off February (can you believe it?), I want to share a look ahead at some key dates for the rest of the year. While several of these may seem obvious, it can be helpful to keep them front and center as you map out your 2021 inventory plans. Consider holidays that buyers in other countries may be shopping for as well.

Upcoming occasion tips and trends:

Last year, we saw a trend towards earlier occasion shopping, as shoppers started planning their purchases for holidays and gifting moments earlier than in past years. It’s never too early to start stocking your shop!

As many loved ones continue to spend time apart, gifting from afar continues to be common. Consider long distance gifters by offering gift wrap, handwritten cards, and customizable options for a personal touch.

Valentine’s Day may be almost here, but many Valentine’s Day purchases happen early in February. Attract last-minute shoppers with digital downloads and gifts that ship quick!

Since Mother’s Day is quickly coming up (on March 14 in the UK and May in the US and many other countries), I want to highlight some trends we’re watching:

Self care treats for mom: Think classics like bath bombs and wellness essentials like yoga mats
Celebrating all kinds of mom figures: Consider pet moms, plant moms, grandmas, and anyone who plays a supportive role in one’s life
Heirloom quality items: Well made, thoughtful gifts made to be cherished for the long run (like engraved cutting boards)
DIY gifts and kits: Shoppers are tapping into their creativity more and more, when making homemade gifts or gifting kits for moms to make

- Occasions I usually shop for: I've never been what you consider a large shopper. But I'm of the "anything goes" sort. I could be purposely shopping for something particular, or it could be an accidental find. So for me, it's hard to nail down my most prevalent occasion/s.

- What is my selling occasion: Halloween only. I love the other occasions, but it's enough to craft for this one (and I sell smaller volume). For other physical reasons, that works best as well. I don't want to add another occasion onto it. Also, I struggle with creating "newbies" (which is what's been going on). That's on me, the choice to create for one occasion. But I need to do it that way.
