Etsy Insights: Extending your reach through email newsletters
Hi! My name is Sarah and I’m a member of the Etsy Marketing team. I help provide the latest education and resources to Sellers through our email channel which includes the Etsy Success Newsletter.
I’m here today to share some helpful tips all about newsletters. Newsletters are a great (and usually free!) marketing tool for your business. Through newsletters, you can stay connected to your customers by sharing shop updates, sales, and windows into your creative process.
Tips:
- Keep it simple
- Newsletters should be easily digestible. Try not to have more than 3 to 4 sections within your newsletter.
- Testing is crucial
- Test new layouts, subject lines, content types, and send times. Testing is a great way to figure out what your audience finds most engaging.
- Get personal
- Don’t be afraid to share snippets of your creative process, pictures of your studio, or even life updates. Newsletters are a space for you to foster a real connection with your customers and remind them of the human(s) behind your shop.
- Create a newsletter coupon
- Consider providing a special coupon to your subscribers. This can be a great incentive to get new subscribers, or reward current subscribers for their loyalty.
What is one thing that stands out to you in your favorite newsletter? How can you incorporate that into your shop’s newsletter?
Also, what are your favorite providers, tools, and resources for building newsletters?

·5 years agoI realize I'm bumping an older thread, but I wanted to see if there were any fresh thoughts on (legal) email marketing? I've beeen doing a lot of research on improving my business, and keep seeing the same bit of advice pop up : you NEED to have an email list! Etsy is currently my main platform, so it would be really helpful for it to be an easy tool function offered, but this thread at least explains one way to do it with the copy/paste to an offsite page.
Does anyone have email list marketing experience to share? Was it worth your efforts? Was a copy/paste link effective for you? Any tips on what to share in your newsletters?
I'd love to start an engaging discussion since this is such a common bit of small business advice! Thanks!
