Etsy Insights: Driving traffic to your shop from social media
Hey there! Tida here from Etsy’s social media team. Today I’m sharing a few social media tips to help you make the most of the new Etsy Share & Save program. If you haven’t already heard, Share & Save rewards you for driving traffic to your shop and can help you save on fees. When you share a unique trackable link to your shop or listings and make a sale, we’ll take 4% of the order total off your Etsy bill.
You can share your trackable link whenever you share your shop or listings off Etsy—in a text to a friend, in your email newsletter, or on a business card. One of the best places you can promote your shop is on social media. Today I’ll be providing some inspiration on how to share your links on social media, with a focus on Instagram.
But first: If you want to start saving on Etsy fees, you need to join Share & Save. You can get started in just a click. Head to your Shop Manager to join the program—it’s free to join and any Etsy seller can participate. Go to Shop Manager.
Pro tip: Customers can’t follow you on social media unless they know where to look. Be sure to add links to your social media profiles to your About section on Etsy. And add a trackable link to your shop to your social profiles so your followers can quickly and easily visit your shop. A quick reminder, your trackable link is formatted: yourshopname.etsy.com
Wondering what to share?
I’ve got a few thought starters for you:
- Share a trackable link to a specific listing from your shop. You can create posts when you add new listings to your shop, or to promote listings that are on sale. Another great way to promote individual items is to share a process video that gives your followers a behind-the-scenes look at how you create (or curate) the item. Videos are a great way to make your posts stand out on Instagram or Facebook.
- Share a unique trackable link to your shop. There are lots of reasons to create posts that link to your Shop Home. A few ideas: Share a shop milestone with your followers, create a post introducing (or re-introducing) yourself and your brand, or encourage shoppers to visit Etsy to check out new inventory you’ve added.
- Share a link for a promo code. Let your followers know about any special offers you’re running. You can share a unique link for any of your promo codes directly with customers, and you’ll save on fees for any order you receive.
- Share your recent rave reviews. Toot your own horn! You can also share glowing reviews with a trackable link back to your shop. This feature is exclusive to the Etsy Seller app, so be sure to download the app ASAP if you haven’t already!
- Share a link to a section of your shop. Encourage buyers to explore a particular theme or category of your listings. It’s easy in the Etsy Seller app—just tap Listings, choose the section you want to share, and copy the URL.
Pro tip: The Etsy Seller App makes it easy to share links to your shop and listings. If you haven’t already, be sure to download the app today!
Wondering where to share? Check out our tips.
Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms— with nearly 2 billion monthly active users worldwide (as of October 2022) you’re sure to find your niche audience. Here are a few tips and best practices for posting on Instagram that I use in my day-to-day as the manager of the @EtsySuccess Instagram account—be sure to give us a follow!
- Add links using Instagram’s built in features: You can add up to five links to your Instagram bio—make sure at least one of those links is a trackable link for your shop. You can also add links to Instagram Reels and Stories using the “Sticker” option or by adding a link as a swipe up!
- Use captions to add context and personality. Craft a caption that draws users in like a simple listing description, a clever pun, or inspiring quote. Leading with a hook, like a question or statement that sparks curiosity can catch shoppers’ attention. Add emojis when relevant and keep it conversational.
- Tap into like-minded communities with hashtags. Try using the Explore tab to see which relevant hashtags are popular. Using a popular hashtag can make your post part of a larger Instagram trend. We’ve seen success with using about 3-5 highly relevant tags per post.
- Give a face (and voice) to your brand. Try taking your followers on a walkthrough of your workspace, explaining a favorite tool or technique, or filming an unboxing video of what customers receive after ordering from your shop.
- Use Instagram’s built-in features. Try adding polls, questions, countdowns, GIFs, or music to your content. Anything that inspires engagement can encourage followers to stop and pay attention to your post. Polls and questions can also be a great way to get feedback on a new product or source ideas from your followers.
You can find more tips for marketing your business on Instagram in the Seller Handbook.
Pro tip: Check your stats along the way to better understand what kind of content is leading to clicks on your link. If you’re opted in to Share & Save, you can head to your Shop Stats to see how many clicks and orders you’ve received from your unique link.
Let us know which tip or tips you’re excited to try on your social channel in the comments below. We’re so excited to see what kind of social media content you create with these tips—be sure to tag us @EtsySuccess!

I love the idea of sharing recent rave reviews to build trust with potential customers, too. I’ll definitely make sure to add trackable links to my social profiles and experiment with Instagram’s interactive features to boost engagement. Looking forward to seeing how these strategies enhance my shop’s visibility! What’s been the most effective method you’ve seen sellers use on social media?

I’ve also started sharing behind-the-scenes reels and being more active on TikTok.
Fingers crossed my “tribe” will find me!

·1 year agoI am the creator of a store dedicated to digital educational products for children, where each item is thoughtfully and passionately designed. We offer a wide range of educational materials, including flashcards, workbooks, and interactive storybooks, all available in five different languages. Our products are priced affordably to support as many families as possible in educating their little ones through engaging and stimulating activities.
My love for creating these materials comes from my personal experience as a mother. I have a 2-year-old daughter and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my second child. In addition, before becoming a mother, I worked in a kindergarten, where I learned how important educational and creative activities are for the harmonious development of children, as well as for strengthening the bond between parents and children.
Each product in my store is designed to provide parents with the tools they need to create moments of learning and exploration with their children, in a fun and interactive way. I am inspired daily by the play and activities I share with my own family, and every material is the result of hours of work, dedication, and genuine passion.
At this time, I am looking to drive more traffic to my store and increase sales, so that my work can reach as many families as possible who can benefit from these resources. I strongly believe that early education has a profound impact on children's development, and I want to contribute to this process in a meaningful way.
Any support in promoting my products is greatly appreciated, especially since behind each one is not just a business, but a story of passion and love for children's education.

·1 year agoI got 5 star rewiews and became a star seller. I am so happy for this. I think my gemstone jewelry is worth of it and my effort to make high quality product, to ship on time and be 24 hours per day ready to answer to messages. I am highly thankfull for each order as a had 7 years pause cause I got my babygir and after 7 years coming back noticed that a lot things have changed, small sellers like me are not visible like before and etsy took a lot intension to marketing. Ist not enough to create something and list it..
